They wear their clothes to look their hcst while they do their hest. Since an increasing shortage of materials lessens the possihility of huying satisfactory readyfmatle clothes, the three-semester sewing course ollered at North grows in popularity each term. The girls hegin hy working with cotton and rayon, making clothes suitahle lor school wear. 'lihey go on to learn the intricacies ol working with wool and silk, making suits, slacks, and date dresses. They also learn how to retnodel old garments and sinarten them with new accessories. ln term three. they stutly dressinaking and tailoring. During this period the girls work independently according to their own speed and ahility. Below, left: Louise Swenson appraises the suitability of a material to the design she has in mind . .
