'T P 'Tis said, out of chaos order results. I Popy Eliotou, this year's foreign ex- change student, came to North High from Heraklion, Greece. Popy en- tered into the swing of campus ac- tivities with eagerness and ease. She was readily accepted by the en- tire student body due to her charm- ing personality, and friendliness toward everyone. Popy was saluted during International Friendship Week in February, an activity designed to honor our foreign exchange students. It can definitely be said that Popy was an asset to North High during her stay here. It is with tenderness and sadness that we wish Popy bon voyage as she returns to her home in Crete. You mean we have to make 500 more of these? I thought we were through. This comment was desperately made while the A.W.S. was preparing for Blossom Day. 1 This year the Associated Women Students became an important factor in our campus life. The girls' president, Connie Town- send, expertly guided many ac- tivities during the year. Special- izing in welfare work, the AWS sponsored Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets for the needy, this activity turned out to be suc- cessful beyond the group's high- est hopes. Also, the AWS pro- vided a spaghetti feed for fresh- man girls during the second week of school as a form of getting the freshmen better ac- quainted. This also is a portion of the Big Sister program of the AWS. J. This group suc- cessfully sponsored a clothes drive which provided needy families with clothing. Soon after Christmas vacation the GSC began a Christmas card drive to bring useful activity to many handicapped and confined children. Also, the girls served at the football banquet in the fall. Thus it is, that the main function of this group is to promote excellence in vocal music. The activities of this club extend tar beyond the confines of the campus. To do this takes money so the Choral Club sponsored the Shake-a-roo sale and several other money-raising proiects. Social activities lessened the tedium of too much work in the form of a hay ride and snow party. BHS . . . EB The stars finished in third place in the final SYL Arvgn standings this year with a 5-5 mark. lt was the Delano highest finish for Coach Tom Bailey's squad since entering the loop. Vern Burke, North's great all-round athlete, won the league scoring title with T87 points. lt was the first time a NH player had won the coveted crown, Burke, along with EB's Bill Benton, was selected as a unanimous all-league choice. North's Dave Stout and Larry Meier were second team selections. Meier missed a first team berth by one point. Bailey MJD! Coach Sam Barton's JV's finished in third place in the final South Yosemite League standings with a 6-4 mark. Bakers- field High and East High were the only teams able to defeat the JV's in league play. Both of the North-EB games could have been reversed. Bakersfield High finished with an un- blemished mark for first place. Gary Hudson topped the team in scoring, followed by Dave Strong. Other top players on the team were Bill Hightower, Carroll Sinclair, Barry Schulz, Dick Moore, and Dick Balmain. JUNIOR VARSITY SCORES 43 N 52 N 46 P'ville ...........
