DEDICATION When we look back on our past four years at North Haven High and remember the many activities and endeavors in which we took part, two very special people come to mind. For it was the contin- ued help and support of these two people which gave us the chance to participate in so many of the experiences which made the past four years special for each one of us. Rarely is one class lucky enough to have both a grade principal and a class advisor whose dedication and concern is so deary apparent. In sincere appreciation of the time, effort, and energy they have devoted to our class, we, the members of the class of 1981 dedicate this edition of Sachem to Miss Maryanne Cassidy and Mr. Robert Scelzo. 2 DEDCATION

In Memory of Karen E. Cordeiro 7 25 63 - 7 8 80 In Memory Of Karen E. Cordeiro She so strongly pushed aside She has taught those of us who knew her well just how precious each moment really is taking things as they come and living each moment to its fullest with no fear just courage and patience She made us realize just how much love one person can bring into our lives and how quickly it can be taken away without it even being acknowledged 9 12 80 In every friendship we see the beauty the joy and the laughter shared throughout the years as we saw hers In every day we grow learning more feeling pain and love yet it seems so unfair for her days to have been cut short and her laughter to have been stopped In the last few months of her time here she was so happy and carefree those of us who knew that she suffered had no words to express the love we felt or maybe we couldn't face the fear It is with deep humility and great affection that I write these words of tribute to a little girl who embodied the epitome of courage. The first day that Karen realized something was wrong, she came to me saying: Mrs. Robbins, look at all these black and blue spots. The very next day she was in the hospital which was going to be her home away from home every so often until the fatal day in July of 1980. As we gaze at this lovely smiling Karen, it is with intense difficulty that we realize that she was keenly aware of her fate. Even though she knew the final hour was approaching, never did she shed a tear. Perhaps we can all learn a lesson from the courage of this child who was very dear to me and to all those who knew her.
