Caruth AFS CLUB AFS is an organization which tries to further international understanding by in- ternational student exchange. This year North Haven has been lucky enough to sponsor two students’ stays in this country and send one North Havener abroad for the summer. Through the dance, the town- wide census, and lots of hard work by everyone, the club has nearly reached its fund-raising goal. Many thanks to Mr. Caruth for all his help. 204 DEBBIE DIEM At the time I write this feature, I've been with Uncle Sam almost six months—I am halfway through with the experience with him. I have seen modern, lofty structures standing next to doomed slum- houses in big cities. I have read statistics about breath-taking U.S. econ- omy. But I wasn't and never will be impressed by those things, simply because those are what I expected the U.S. to win. I’m not fascinated in investigating Uncle Sam physically or materially. I'm only interested in studying him spiritually. That spirit was shown when an intellectual knelt down to clean a dog’s mess. I also see it in moving crowds on 3rd Avenue in New York during rush hours. I’m very glad to find out that American Youths also have a heap of worries about themselves, about their aliened friends all over the world. That erased by misled impression that they only enjoy their speedy cars, their fancy clothes, etc. My friends — whoever read this — have my prayer that God will bless us all to survive and live happily in this too troublesome, un- stable world. 205 PAUL TUCKER Paul Tucker, coming from Great Britain and a culture so very similar to ours, had no trouble fitting right into the mood, atmosphere and pace of North Haven High School. As his many friends can testify, Paul has taken every opportunity to leave his British background be- hind him and experience the American way of life. He has become involved in many activities, in and out of school, and is taking full advantage of the new educational vistas open to him. He has done a lot of experimentation with the uses of the modular schedule, and has participated on the varsity Soccer team. Paul has definite ideas on what he has seen in the U.S. — about the S.D.S., the anti-war movement, and nearly every aspect of his life here. Having proved himself an always-interesting person, even if you are not able to always agree with his views, Paul will doubtless be remem- bered in North Haven as a very unique AFS student. 206 Joe Miranda Joe Malavasi Jerry DeSalvatore Paul Gormlcy Francois Pelletier Rufus Seder West Campus Mark DiNello Ed Eckert Frank Glenn Bob Haag David Peach Mr. Lozowski Mrs. Pelletier Mrs. Meeneghan 207 ENGLISH BOOK ROOM lunch time . . . organization . . . It is involved in the school, and the world, and the problems of those areas. The bland high-school reporting has given way to an impatient, meaningful content, on such issues as Number Nine, the uses of modular scheduling, and birth control. Dialog has grown up into a genuine newspaper and deserves the support of the entire school community. It is trying to present the students views of controver- sial subjects, to goad the student body into thinking, to help the communication between students, faculty and administrators. This year it is bought to be read and not as a favor to your friend the editor. Dialog has become an interesting and informative part of the school community, and the community at large. 210 Barbara Ostfeld Sam Docknevich Gloria Muzio Lisa Cretei la Anne Aaboe Liz Appel Larry Asbell Denise Barbuto Denise Barney Jeff Barske June Barzilauskas Cheryl Black Martha Borkowski Steve Bomstein Dorothy Brunjes Donna Capella Janet Cassell a Diane Gppolini Joe Cippolini Carol Civitello Mimi Clarke Alyce Cognetta Diane deCastiilia Audrey Decker Gary Dolinski Scott Fessler Larry Fumival Melanie Gangler Debby Golden Jan Gosselin Becky Grunt Kathy Harble Wendy Hawley Bev Kelsey Brian Kalterman Nancy Kotchian Sally Kotchian Valerie Leads Linda Markowski Donna Maturo Robin McGalliard Janet Mellili Bob Meyers fan Muirhead Rich Ostfeld Maty Parcse Mark Pelliccio Eric Pfeiffer Madeline Randall Pat Ryan John Samo Suzanne Semmlcr Moira Shannon Libby Soboleski Lynn Spiro Florence Smith Lynne Stephens Kerry Sullivan Bill Therian Bruce Tolman Laura Jean Tully Jan Zimmerman DRAMA CLUB The American Dream . . . tragedies, traumas and troubles . . . flats . . . dirty stages . . . mass confusion . . . Last year's ill-fated trip to Boston also was resurrected, to view the superb collection of Roman artifacts at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. It is impossible to extend sufficient thanks for the months of genuine interest and countless hours of dedicated work required to prepare a yearbook for printing. Without the aid of numerous people, such preparation would have been an impossible task. Therefore, it is most fitting to express our deep- est appreciation to all who have contributed, in any way, to the final publica- tion of the 1970 SACHEM: Mr. Anthony Antonelli: who has devoted himself completely to the long and tedious tasks involving the successful production of this book; without his guidance and patience this undertaking would have been impossible. Throughout the year he has worked organizing the details of various activi- ties and overseeing the management of our finances. Both his suggestions and advice have helped bring us to the successful completion of this year’s SACHEM. T. O’Toole and Sons: for their fine publishing and Mr. Jack Brown who had patiently waited for and personally attended to, the needs of SACHEM. Jay Storm Studio — and especially John Petrullis and Ron Livieri: for their fine photographs in the Senior Section and personal attention to every request. Business Department: for the continual use of their typewriters and duplica- tion machines. Office Secretaries of both campuses: for the use of the class rosters, locat- ing students, and typing announcements. Custodians and 1A Department: for continually unlocking room 320. Larry Asbell, Sam Dochnevich, Tom Frei, and Jeff Price: for the use of their their photographs in both the opening and closing sections. All the SACHEM parents: for their moral support and understanding of the late nights after school, absence from dinner and especially to the mothers for keeping our meals warm. The Staff of the 1970 SACHEM: for their effort, interest and spirit in the piecing together of this yearbook. The Advertisers: for their greatly needed aid. And finally, the Administration, Faculty and entire student body of North Haven High School for their interest, cooperation and continued support of SACHEM. Again, our sincere thanks to all who made our work easier and more enjoy- able. We have passed through a delicate phase of our life. We have watched old dreams pass away and with a thirsting for new hope we have begun to reach forward. We have spoken and we have listened. We have learned to link ourselves with people in feeling and relationship. The life we have begun to create will be inherited by a nameless child not yet conceived. We must unite in both our laughter and fear so that our world may touch this child. $ TUO NT A i 1 VI Ub '' tVHNP lift it N' I P T Of HUMAN I |;( ! v ANP T Hf Ai r t 0 1 At ION Ob INPIVI U At Rt SrONSIB IT V A r- TO OUR FELLOW CLASSMATES WE SEND BEST WISHES THE CLASS OF 1970 NORTH HAVEN HIGH RINGS Manufactured by — PANIKOFF INCORPORATED 37 Broadway, New Haven Telephone: 562-7729 wearing HEADQUARTERS FOR . . .
