Soccer is the only spectator sport at North Georgia which is played against other schools and organizations. Playing split seasons, we won the first half and tied for the second half. This year ' s team is the first winning team in recent years — a proud record for the Second Division Champions of the GSSFA league. North Georgia students joined in the fun with the women ' s and men ' s drill teams presenting a delightful comedy representative of this era. Students also actively participated in the parade enjoying the experience as much as the spectators. . Distinguished Military Students Parade 6-11. Cadets are not allowed to decorate their rooms but they are invited to open house in the women ' s dorm. Christmas trees are a very special part of Christmas and they can be found almost anywhere on campus! 31 WINTER QUARTER ■iiHe- ; Students stay on campus more during this quarter than any other — the reason being that we can ' t get out; we are usually snowed in and it ' s too cold outside to go anywhere! 32 ♦:• • - I 4 Construction of President Hoag ' s Big Dream, the Student Center, began in lanuary, 1968 and was officially opened lanuary, 1970. Mr. Leland Reed is the Director of the Student Center. X X : _,. f dt . 9 (B( S| KjL ) Facilities offered to the students are a recreational room, stereo room, piano room, fireplace room, tv toom, canteen, auditorium, bookstore, post office, faculty dining room, and a cafeteria for the upperclassmen. 35 ■Daily Life - At North Georgia College 36 i39RT Describing life at NGC depends on whom one talks to. Some students are happy, some would like to be more liberal, some are liberal, but most seem to be satisfied to follow the prescribed routine. - This humdrum world of seeming routine is only a cover. Inside are real people doing real things. Master- pieces are written; Mr. Nobody becomes Mr. Somebody because of a minor incident; sunshine turns to rain, rain to snow, snow to sunshine; romance happens and the world moves on. 39 40 Student Life Homework is impossible. Dances are the majority of social life. Gossip is the best form of com- munication. Life is terribly perplexing. 41 Campus Entertainment 42 Entertainment is largely self-made. That brought to campus from the out- side is varied. It has taken the form of brass, opera, pop, jazz, and lecture. Inside enter- tainment includes pa- geants, talent shows, drama, and dances. WJW 7$ Campus Entertainment Efforts, appreciated or not, are made to provide entertainment for the student body. Excitement reigns when a big name appears. The Leaves of Crass were the popular band this year. Big Brother and the Holding Company and Clarence Carter paid us a visit. Third Army put in an appearance as did the National Opera Company. 45 Basketba Basketball is an in- tramural sport that shows a good deal of enthusiasm from the boys. A team sport does wonders for company ego, even when one guy hogs the ball. 47 Basketba Girl ' s basketball is well underway as an intercolle- giate sport as well as in- tramural. The team has put forth undaunted effort and done a fantastic job. Rec Club basketball was in full swing this season. The same old faithfuls were on the court each night practicing and competing. 49 SWEETHEART BALL 50 Romance and regalia accom- pany the Sweetheart Ball. Sweethearts are presented in reigning beauty. Amid ugly, cold weather, warm enchantment can be found at this ball. 51 SPRING QUARTER Spring at NGC is going to the Rapids, forgetting to go to classes and drill, long hot hours baking in the sun, getting stuck PDOA, sleeping in class, more than usual, the Military Ball, company parties, preparing for summer camp, wishing the end was here, and saying good- bye to the one you love. . The audience enjoying the play for two hours sometimes fail to realize the many, many hours of preparation, rehearsing and last minute decisions needed to produce a good play. Under the coaching of Miss Nevin Lenhardt, the Playmakers have had a very successful year. 67 Miss North Georgia Pageant Turning over her reign to Pat is Miss Susan Ridenour, Miss North Georgia of 1969-70. Two beautiful queens and it is our honor that they represent North Georgia College. 68 Miss Congeniality, Susan Singleton The Cyclops would like to congratulate all the girls participating in the pageant, for each and every girl was a gracious and beautiful contestant talented in her own way. The girl chosen by official judges has excelled in all three categories of evening gown, swim suit, and talent. 69 Marilyn Olley Miss Georgia Pat Pratt Miss North Georgia 70 The Queen and Her Court Miss Pat Pratt, Miss North Georgia College, followed by Miss Pat Hoyt, first runner-up, Miss Diane Pittman, second runner-up, Miss Eugenia Seaton, third runner-up and Miss Danette Rayman, fourth runner-up. A lovely court and one that NGC can be proud of. The ' 70 Cyclops wishes Pat congratulations and good luck in the Miss Georgia Pageant. 71 Parent ' s Weekend Parent ' s weekend consisted of Honor ' s Night, Company Games, Scuba Exhibition, Mountain Pla- toon Exhibition, Collegiate Singers, Production, Aggressors ' Exhibition, Military Ball, and the Parent ' s Day Parade. — : r 73 Despite the rainy, ugly weekend, the two days were a success for most everyone. The mountain platoon, up to par put on an exciting exhibition. B - H . a PI 74 B | HI 1 1 II s I •- ■, • •T sn Memoria Run On April 21 of this year two North Georgia Cadets, Steve Blanton and Bob Stein, ran 20 miles from Gainesville to Dahlonega. This run was in honor of those soldiers killed in Viet Nam. A very moving and novel demonstration of faith, loyalty, and de- termination expressing North Georgia ' s unique bond with all servicemen. 76 Upon reaching Dahlonega, the two runners were greeted with cheers of respect and admiration. President Hoag was on hand to give his congratulations and to present Steve and Bob with a torch representative of peace. 77 I finetu-C iahth L i i r i v ommencemen i lorth v-jeoraicL K olle ' roarum PROCESSIONAL— The Triumphal March from Aida The College Band INVOCATION The Reverend Nathaniel E. Together we have seen the total program, along with the campus, expand in keeping with the changing needs of our state and nation. It has been a wonderful experience for Mrs. Hoag, our son, and me, and an experience on which we shall always look back with a deep satisfaction and pleasure. As has been announced, for the next year I am to become a member of the Chancellor of the University System ' s staff and following that assignment it is my plan to maintain an active interest in higher education through several organizations in which I have over the years been active, travel a bit, and enjoy our new home now under construction near Lake Lanier. I have been asked many times will North Georgia College change? Certainly it will change. It has changed on numerous occasions during its long history and each change has played a part in the development of a stronger program. I can predict with confidence that this college, which has served so many so well for almost a hundred years, will continue to serve an increasing number in a better way in the years to come. We train men. That is our job and we take it with pride because America must have men who care enough about freedom to fight, and fight well for it — if that is what it takes. We don ' t say war is right; we don ' t think communist aggression is either. What IS our job? To teach men the use of weapons, and equipment — To teach men to be better leaders — To teach about life and death, and that, often, the decision they make is the difference between the two. George Aldridge - Commander Other Officers — David Grange — 1st Lt., Dana Mil- ner — 2nd Lt., Brett Rayman — 1st Sgt. 148 Aggressors The Aggressor Unit is a volunteer unit comprised of 3rd and 4th Classmen. Its purpose as a unit is to help with the Blade in preparing the Juniors for Summer Camp. Among some of the things that the Aggressors did was to give a demostration Parent ' s Day Week-End, and go on the F.T.X. This year ' s officers: Bill Souther - Commander John Seddon - Exec. Off.
