Law Buckles Down Many Students at North Gaston drive, therefore they have been affected by the seatbelt law that was passed October l, 1985. The law was passed hoping to save lives in accidents. This North Carlina law states that all front seat passengers should wear their seatbelts. Also, if one is under 16, the driver is liable for them, mak- ing many juniors and seniors possibly liable for under- classmen they transport to and from school. North Gaston students reacted differently about the law that now fifteen out of fifty states have obtained. Many say that the reason they don't Wear them is that they've grown accustomed to not wearing them, and because they are not comfortable. Others say they wear it when they think about it or are going on long trips. However, some believe that the law is a good idea and that it makes the road safer. A large number of juniors believe that it should be each individua1's choice whether or not to buckle up. Whether or not to wear, just remember it's the law.

After the votes had been tallied, Todd Lewis and Nicole Watts came out on top. Todd is a member of the Wildcat Civic Club. and Monogram Club. l-Ie plays football and baseball for the Wildcats. and outside of school he enjoys to fish and hunt. Nicole is a member of the Keywanettes and is on the Yearbook staff. She enjoys horseback riding. spending time with friends, and supporting Wildcat activities. Juniors I 67
