Light December seventh was the night of the Miss North Gaston Pageant. The theme chosen for the pageant was Light up North Gaston. The ten finalists were Penny Oates, Kathy Hoffman, Revonda Porch, Amy Brown, Danielle Anderson, Dawn Bohanan, Heidi Herren, Sharon Burke, Angie Derreberry, and Tracy Wilson. After auditioning to be in the pageant, they spent a week rehearsing for the final competition. There were four different catagories: talent, evening gown, sportswear, and inter- views. Winning wasn't everything according to a few of the girls. Amy Brown stated, I wasnlt in it necessarily to win, but for the ex- perience of the whole thing. Penny Oates added, It gave me a chance to show my abilities as a dancer. I ' Dawn Bohanan stated, 'SI was in it to build up confidence in myself before I go off to college. Dawn Bohanan was chosen as the 1986 Miss North Gaston Queen. The first runner-up was Angie Derreberry and Sharon Burke was the second runner-up. Revonda Porch was voted as Miss Congeniality.
