Keywanettes On Call Service + Success The Keywanettes once again proved to make the year a successful one. A main objective of the club was to provide service for the school as well as the community. The major commu- nity projects were babysitting at the Mary Ellen Nelson Center and assisting at the CROP Walk. They spent many hours decorat- ing the archway for Homecoming, provided a tea for Miss North Gaston contestants and judges, and sponsored the Valentine Dance. Members organized and served refreshments for open house, fed the football team after a home game, worked in the concession stand during basketball games, and arranged the Christmas Queen contest. For all of this to be accomplished, there must be people willing to devote their time. The Keywanettes met every second Tuesday of the month before school. Meetings were run by the officers with the assistance of the advisers. Everyone associated with the club felt the year was a big success. President Michelle McCraw commented, I feel that we were a success because many of our goals were made and accomplished. More of a wide range of members were involved in both the more serious and fun activities. It was worth my time and effort because I feel I've accom- Keywanette Advisers: Mrs. Elaine McBryde and Mrs. Jane Taylor. V . ' ,ki qs? 1 -wg, an a Crue plished something after organizing it. She also stated that she had a lot of help and support from fellow officers and advisers. Advisers of the Keywanettes, Mrs. Jane Taylor and Mrs. Elaine McBryde, both enjoy helping the girls. Mrs. Taylor stated, It gives me an opportunity to see the students in a non-academic setting. She also feels that it's good to have a service club that has a lot of involvement in the school and community. She added, ' 'They are a great group of girls to work with. ' ' First year adviser Mrs. McBryde felt that it was time well spent, and enjoyed working with teenagers, She stated I've enjoyed getting to know and work with students that I donlt have in class. Senior member Tina Pasour really enjoyed being a Keywanette. She stated, I wanted to be a member of the Keywanettes because the club did alot of good things and I wanted to be involved in an active club which participated in school and community projectsf' Junior and sophomore members Michelle Breuille and Davan Cloninger added, We like the members and enjoy working with them. Keywanettes Melissa Smith and Michelle McCraw work hard on the archway for Homecoming. Susan McSwain and Leslie Jenkins serve at the tea for the Miss NG pageant. . F' X. Clubs View Career Possibilities There are two clubs whose main function is to leam all about health and the human body. One is the Junior Heart Board. The JHB's purpose is to leam about the heart and health related things. They met at least once a month in school and attended a county meeting monthly at the Eastridge Mall Community Room. Miss Caldwell, sponsor of the club, replied At times, the club keeps me busyg it depends on the activity we're doing. The JHB was involved in many activities. One of these was a Pizza Eat-Off at Domino's Pizza on Highway 321. The winner was our own Munching Ray McSwain. Another was CPR training classes that members attended to broaden their knowledge on im- mediate first aid.
