Daniel Shoitridge says, I like driving a lot and it's a good way to make money and it doesn't take up a whole lot of my time. Boyd Beasley states, 'fl joined the club because I drive a bus and it's the only club available for bus drivers only. A Goal for Achievement The Beta and Science Clubs have helped the school in several ways. One way is academic leadership. Mrs. Hanna, adviser for the Beta Club, pointed out, ' The Beta Club promotes academic achievement, leadership, and character which are very worthy and worthwhile goals? The club accomplishes this by requiring their members to have at least a ninety over-all average. Kathy Mason, the president, explained, The Beta Club gives the student something to strive for in terms of grades. This club is a nationally acclaimed society and it is an honor to be a memberf, Tom Wright, the treasurer, ex- pressed another way the Beta Club helps the school, The Beta Club does various projects that benefit the school. The Beta Club set up the cafeteria for College Day and prepared the refreshments for college representatives. During Christmas, the Beta Club sponsored a candy cane sale and also donated a toy to the Student Councilis Christ- mas project for needy children. However, the Beta Club isn't all work and no play. They began their year by holding their initiation at the Westem Sizzlin where new members were required to come dressed opposite their personalities. The Beta Club's 168 X Clubs next activity was to attend their district con- vention at Bunker Hill High School. When asked why she enjoys the Beta Club, Regina Baldwin replied, ' 'The Beta Club gives you a chance to be around people who have worked hard and achieved success. Always striving for advancement and a way to meet academic needs of the students is the only way to describe the Science Club. The many university field trips taken by the club not only gave students an inside view of specific science related career options, but it gave the students an overall view for campus life. When asked about the university field trips, Tonya Wilson stated, ' 'I liked them be- cause they gave up-to-date information on science related things. The Science Club works to help others as well as themselves. One of these projects included donating toys to needly children at Christmas through the student council. The club felt this was a good way to express the sharing of love at Christ- mas. The Science Club, the largest in the school with 97 members, felt it necessary to divide into committees in order to relate to the specific needs of the club. The different committees consisted of fund-raising, headed Science Club Officers: Linda McKnight, President: Martha Rohm, Vice-President, Beth Ferguson,
