, - Robin Russell Receives Crown Robin Russell realized every girl's dream on October I8 when she heard her name called before a packed home crowd. She, along with the other contestants, rode in con- vertible or T-top cars around the track and were escorted onto the field by Wildcat Civic Club members through an archway decorated by the Keywanettes. After all the homecom- ing court had been presented, Phyllis Clemmer was announced as Maid of Honor and then Robin was crowned by outgoing queen Ann Merck. The announcement of homecoming queen was the grand finale of an exciting homecom- ing day. Students were entertained at a third period pep rally sponsored by the cheerleaders who dressed along with other students in 50's day attire. Each club decora- ted a wagon float and paraded before the student body. The Library Club rode away with the first place award. Student stunts devised by the cheerleaders lifted everyone's spirits. Homecoming Assembly Adds Special Touch Homecoming is always the most exciting week North Gaston students experience. Student body leaders tried once again to make this a special week by changing tradition. Underclass- men had complained that they never knew the contestants for homecoming queen so Mrs. Hibberts, Student Council advisor, planned an assembly to introduce the contestants. Each girl presented a speech or tape revealing her feelings toward NG and her nomination for homecoming queen. A slide .r presentation photographed by Mr. Barron Lee gave students an additional view of the girls. Mark Lutz, Boyd Beasley, Mike Calvert and Chuck Hill were es- corts and Heidi Heiren played the piano for background music. Football sponsors presented a rose to each contestant. Students then went to third period and voted for Homecoming Queen. Joey Watts stated, ' iThe assembly was great in the respect that we could have something new and special for the homecoming courtf' Julie Bumgardner added, ' 'The homecoming assembly was fantastic. It was one of the most beautiful gatherings we've had at North Gaston? HI thought the assembly was unique and special for everyone involved. I feel that we started a new tradition, Sta- ted Student Body President, Bill Burkett. The assembly was a thrill for the whole homecoming court. Whether anyone else remembers it or not, it will al- ways be a special memory for each girl in the court, replied Dawn Bohanan.
