Success In The Making The Cats football program went through a few changes this year. One of the biggest changes was the new head coach Bob Patton. He is a 22-year veteran of coaching, being an assistant and head coach at Salisbury High School. Patton describes himself as a fundamentalist and he taught the basics from the first day of practice. I like to establish good habits such as strong discipline, good organization, and the coaching of specific techniques, stated Patton. Patton made a big change by adding a junior varsity. This helps the younger players get experience they need for varsity. To help with the J.V.'s, Patton got Terry Radford and Clay Alexander tojoin Ken Walters and Jack Pasour as assistant coaches. f'Playing on the J.V. team gave me a chance to play where I wouldn't on the Varsity, said Andy Britton. Practice was another big change. The Varsity and J.V. exercised together but did drills separately. Practice was laid out on a piece of paper made on a time schedule posted for the team to see what had to be done. Practice ran with no wasted time so they could cover more in a less amount of time. One other alteration was the team choosing a team captain, Joey Watts and co-captain, Eric Wallace. They helped to give the team leadership. The two led the team in their ex- ercises and in the team meetings after practices and games. Watts also met with the coaches before the games to relay messages to the team and helped to make decisions during the game. The J.V.'s defense swarms to the ball.
