MR. STEPHEN PAUL TRUDNAK . . . MEMORIES C1931-1985J by Barron Lee Memories furnish such clear pictures for the mind that words seem unnecessary, but for the moment, at least, think with me ofthe time, effort and love shared with us through the life of Steve Trudnak. Even though we were not fully aware ofit as the days and years rolled by, his epitaph of commitment to hard work, loyalty of purpose, and cheerful courageousness in the wiles of trouble was lived before us and is now a permanent part of the memory. Most all the days of his manhood wee spent in this community. An everpresent attitude of helper and friend could be sensed. and educa- tion was deemed to be so much more than books, homework and grades. The family was his pride in life, and his work was the joy of life. Combine these two elements tfamily and workj and the true meaning of service through dedication was exemplified in Mr. Trudnak. Pleasant memories must be arranged for in advance. Indeed, advanced arrange- ments were handled with great care by our friend and co-laborer, Steve. He helped us prepare a lifetime plus of memories during his tenure at Dallas and North Gaston. Beyond the office chats, computer sheets, old Mustangs, L.R. stories of fame and glory, survey sheets, registration days, competency testing, college days, tomato plants, making schedule changes, night school, and voca- tional workshops, there was a true friend of students and fellow workers. He was the leader out front when needed, but most often a friend by your side and also an encourager with a push from behind as needed. Our friend was a fun-loving man who always had time to share a story, a cup of coffee, a joke and a laugh, a green thumb hint and a word of encouragement. IO4 X Faculty fi' ink, When one has been so faithful, active and ever present, it is difficult for our minds to think of him as being gone. Thank goodness memories cannot be confined and imprisoned in a shallow grave, rather they are deeply engraved in the minds of men and etched on the hearts of friends for an eternity. lf you wish to find the monument for f'Trudy,H just look around. He left so much of himself with so many that illumination of his monument will remain throughout the years in people just like you and me.

Barbara Scruggs Biology, Science, and Math. .IV Cheerleader Adviser. Itis Working A new disciplinary punishment was adopted into our school rules to try to cut down on absences caused by the original out of school suspension. In School Suspension QISSJ is its name. The majority of the students who have been in ISS were put in there for ex- cessive tardies, but ISS is also used as punishment for fighting, sleeping in class, and other disturbances students make. While in ISS, the students are given assignments by their teachers to keep them busy. Often they are given more work than the regular classes. This is to ensure that a student will not fall far be hind in their studies during their punishment. They are given no breaks and are under supervision the entire time. Isolation is the main reason ISS is working, according to Mrs. Rust. In Mr. Costner's words, ISS has cut down on out of school suspension, although there have been many people who have gone to ISS for their second and third times. Mr. Carpenter stated, It's working for those who don't want to get into trouble? 106 X Faculty i I Obviously students in ISS dislike the confinement, all of them are coopera- tive and cause no problems. Since they find nothing to look forward to in ISS, the students realize they should make an effort to get to class on time and practice self discipline more often. Jeff Vemon said, It is like a prison but it sure keeps you from getting tardies. Mrs. Herndon added, It's workingf'
