Student Council- appointed committees began work immediately on invitations to be sent to alumni, on decorations for the dance in the gym, and on the queen’s float. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors all worked together on the theme, ā€œCan’t Take My Eyes Off Of You,ā€ to make this year’s Homecoming the best ever. 19 20 if ' % We can’t take our eyes off you Angela Carol Butner! On the cold and windy night of October 24, eight girls anxiously awaited the climax of Homecoming for 1969-70. Then, a dream became a reality for-Miss Angie Butner! Amidst tingles of excitement, tears, and smiles, the lovely queen was crowned by Mr. Gibson. Prior to the announcement, our Viking band, color guard, majorettes, and Valkyries presented a splendid half-time performance. 21 L ' • 1 .• JBwi P’TEfflr MIR. shhk IDROTT ' r. U st ’Osy y ULĀ£s. With 19 returning lettermen, the Vikings showed promise of a winning season. However, North was plagued by costly mistakes throughout the season and was only able to put together a disappointing 4-6 record. The Vikings’ offense never quite jelled and the defense was vulnerable to the big play. There were, however, numerous highlights of the season. North defeated Burlington Williams in a thrilling Homecoming game, which really proved the Vikings’ potential. North handily defeated Parkland, Sanderson, and West Forsyth once again demonstrating their great team ability. 31 L J ā–  ; fn North captures its sixth consecutive Homecoming win FAR LEFT: Coach Hayes ponders strategy, then instructs Greg Burke (78). North continued to win impressive victories, both in and out of conference, throughout the season. Sophomores Ben Yeager and David Vernon also represented North very well. Since a golfer’s score is based on his own ability and effort, our team’s potential really showed through this year. Coach Nifong stressed good sportsmanship and year-round practice. This was the key to their 1969-70 year of success. 43 I BOTTOM: Bill Soots fields a grounder en route to a double play. With realistic hopes of the State Championship, the team worked diligently to show themselves approved unto all fellow Vikings and to all opposing teams. Jimmy Lyons, Mark Boyles, Jeff Wood, Ted Mickey, and C.C. Brewer were some of the outstanding players. The Staff offers assistance and discipline to the students. The decisions its members make create the personality of tire school. To the faculty it offers technical advice and administrates school business and finances. Two assistant principals are responsible for the specific details of school bus transportation, textbook distribution, and absentees. 111 Counselors serve as liaisor Three counselors compose the Guidance Staff; each is assigned to a specific class. Mrs. Hauser assists seniors with testing, scholarships, transcripts, and advice on post-graduation plans. Mrs. Kastner calculates the class ranks of juniors and conducts tests such as P.S.A.T. and S.A.T. She advises about scheduling and placement. Sophomores find help in coping with the demands of high school from Mr. Pickel. He also aids them in becoming a part of North. Out of all the many, many helping hands who assisted in our creating this book, we would like to give our special thanks: to Mr. Bob Chappell for designing the layout; to Karen Aldridge for the copy and its typing; to the staff and the junior assistant editors who helped enormously in writing headlines and captions; to the photographers Allan Moore, Doug Beal, and Mr. Paul Hepler, on whom we depended greatly for a great load of required work. Also, our heart-felt thanks go to Mr. Berrier who worked side-by-side with us through all the difficulties and hardships usually borne by the editors and for innumberable extra hours in helping us publish our book by the deadline.
