Foreword i GROWTH6Progress-change-growth-, All things go forward, not to grow is to die. Growth is often painful, but it is the essence and evidence of living, Now in her second year, North Senior bears evi- dence of the population explosion as her enroll- ment increases steadily. Already seven supple- mentary trailer classrooms stand in soldierly rank along our back campus, and crowded corridors during class changes impede the progress of hurry- ing students. North has been both deliberately and uncon- sciously establishing those traditions which her students will build upon and carry away with them to cherish forever. In this second volume of THE CYNOSLJRE the editors have attempted to picture life as it is at North, to capture the spirit of enthusiasm and de- votion that illumines our days, to show some of the ways in which we grow. Please accept this book in the same spirit in which the editors have prepared it-with pride and pleasure, And of North herself, may Our echoes roll from soul to soul And grow for ever and for ever -Tennyson. New teachers encouraged a wider variety of subjects for the stu- dent's choice and gave the student a more roundly developed educational background. New faculty members were quickly initiated into North's rules and routines and found both stu- dents and faculty members friendly and helpful. Teachers and students be- came better acquainted as the days wore on and each student knew that an interested faculty member was al- ways ready to help and advise.
