Class History The Senior class has five members who started together in the first grade. They are: Roberta Garner, Betty Os- borne, Bernard Maerkisch, Vilda Beck- with, and Keith Bischoff. ln the sixth grade, Robert Wade ioined the class and in the seventh, Shirley Swaney. That now made a total of seven. It was in the eighth year that Donald Smith entered our class, to be fol- lowed by Samuel Risner the next year, and Julia Predieri in our Senior year. Our advisor in the seventh grade was Mrs. Gump, in the eighth, Mr. Ruggles, Mrs. Fernandez, Freshmen, Mr. Fer- nandez, during the Sophomore year, and Mrs. Woodworth in our Junior and Senior years. In the last semester of the Sophomore year we chose our class rings which were received in the early fall of the Junior year. The planning of our Junior-Senior Prom was the chief activity in the spring of the Junior year. In December, 1949, we gave as our class play, We Shook The Family Tree. Our Senior class play was Pro- fessor, How Could You! Both of these productions included every member of the class. Capacity audiences at- tended all performances. Such is the history of our class. Only time can write its conclusion. p- 'L C? -' :-- -Lg Tir- Class Will We, the class of 1951, bemg of sound mind and body and achng under no fraud, duress, or under Influence of any per- son whatsoever, do make, publish, and declare thus, our last wlll and testament, on this twenty-eighth day of May, 1951, A D I Roberta Garner do bequeath my ablllty for regular attend- ance at school and good grades to Phyllls Mlnnlear See if you can break my record Phyllls l Samuel Rlsner do bequeath my ablllty to cut up and get by with lt to John Leak I hope you can do as well as I dld Johnny I Betty Osborne do bequeath my quietness and mannerly dlsposntlon to Margaret Rlsner May you use thus for years to come Margaret I Robert Wade do bequeath my heavy bulld to Haldon Smith Say Haldon maybe padding might help I Vllda Beckwith do bequeath my pillows that I use whale drlvlng to Phyllls Edwards Heres hoping that you can see over the dash board with them' I Bernard Maerklsch do bequeath my great slnglng ablllty to James Wade May you be as great as Jlmmy Durante I Shirley Swaney do bequeath my temper to Roger Gra ham May you learn to control your temper as I did mme I Donald Smlth do bequeath to Betty Woodworth Just all my love I Kelth Bischoff do bequeath my actxng ablllty In hugh school plays to Helen Swaney and Roger Hershlser Make sure you re completely dressed when appearing on the stage CWhen I was a Junlorl I Julla Predlerl do bequeath my ablllty to speak Spamsh to Vaughn Baker See you m Mexico Vaughn We the entlre Senior Class do bequeath a large economy size bottle of Hadacol to the entlre Jumor Class Maybe rt'll gave you a quick pep up We the entlre Senlor Class do bequeath our way to talk ourselves out of classes most of the year Remember when you get excused from classes you must work We the entlre Senlor Class do bequeath to the Freshman Class our ablllty to serve an mltlatlon supper promptly We the entire Senlor Class do bequeath to the teachers our Tlme magazmes . . . . . . . . . . . While on my iob as a civil service sec- retary in San Francisco, California, I received a telephone call from one of my old classmates, Betty Osborne, who has ioined the Waves. She told me that she had a week-end pass and asked if l'd like to start out and look for our old crew, the class of l95l. I told her that l'd be glad to accom- pany her. When I got out of work, Betty was waiting for me in a jitney to go down to the subway station where we were ready to head for Goat Island. There we expected to find Vilda Beckwith. While we were on the subway, we looked around and saw Don Smith, who was going to his naval store on the island. He asked Betty and me to take a look at the store. While we were looking around, we ran into Keith Bischoff, and had a good old- fashioned gab session. flf you know Keith, you will know what I mean.J He told us that he had iust received his helicopter and asked us to take a ride. We told him we'd have to find Vilda first. Keith knew right where to find her so we stopped and picked her up as she was leaving her job as a private secretary. As we continued on our way to the helicopter, we walked along the dock, looked out, and saw a ship coming in, so we waited to see if any of the crew was on board. As the sailors came off board, who should two of them be but Admiral Bud Maerkisch and Com- mander-in-Chief, Bob Wade. They were also off for the week end. Now, everyone was with us to go for the ride except Sam Risner, Shirley Swaney, and Julia Predieri. Bud and Bob said they had heard that Sam had finally worked himself up to man- ager and owner of the former SmeItz's gas station back in our home county. We all climbed into Keith's helicopter and took oFf for home. We found Sam slaving away at the station. He said if we'd wait a few minutes he'd take us to Bellevue where Shirley was liv- ing and having quite a time raising her kids. While visiting her, she told us that Julia was living on Mars. Since we were altogether, except one, we had to go see that certain one, Julia. Into the helicopter we iumped and headed for Mars. There, without much difficulty, we found her. She served us a very elaborate dinner in the Mars style. Since we all had to be back at our iobs by Monday morning, we left Mars in time to get home for a much needed rest. The time had been all too short, but even a big gab-fest had been better than nothing at all. After all, ten years had been a long time! The Junior - Senior Prom The Junior-Senior Prom was held at the Alpine Village, Cleveland, Ohio, May 6, l95O. After having our pictures taken on the Cottage yard, we started to Cleveland in cars driven by the faculty. We arrived at the Alpine Village at 5:30, ate, and watched their floor show. From there, we went to a midnight movie and on to Howard Johnson's restaurant for refreshments. We de- cided then that it was time to start for home. But upon our arrival in Fairfield, we went to the home of our Superintend- ent, Mr. Fox. We played cards while an early breakfast of waffles, pan- cakes, and sausage was being pre- pared. It was an early hour by the time breakfast was over and indeed time to call it a day long to be re- membered. I3 0, Professor, How Could You! A three act play, by Anne Coulter Martens. Men usually thought Vicky's pranks were cute, but Professor Perry curtly ordered Vicky to call and apologize or drop the course. Vicky sulkily obeyed. At the Perry home she overheard a bit of gos- sip. Professor Perry had been offered a deanship . . . if he can get a wife. His friend John'and his family rallied around to help. John offers his secretary, a curly-headed little minx who can't spell . . . an ideal wifel Grandma's candidate is Tootsie Bean, a bit plump but a mas- ter hand with lemon chiffon pie. Vicky, longing for revenge, proposes a friend, Valerie, a Southern charmer, who makes a fool out of every man she meets. Grandpa won't tell the name of his can- didate! Third Act: Saturday evening, Library in Perry home. Senior Play fessor, her puglist brother sees to it that he eats it! The three candidates come to dinner and wheedle and flatter the embarrassed Professor. Grandpa makes each think the Professor has proposed an elopement, and they are all ready for the dash to matrimony! There was a lot of comedy as the irate girls face each other, especially when, to save the situation, John, dressed as a woman comes weeping in, trailing three small children after him and passing himself off as the Professor's long lost wife! The three girls console them- selves elsewhere. ln a whirlwind finish, Grandpa's candidate win's and the Professor finds a wife . . . the little spitfire Vicky. CHARACTERS Grandpa Perry ............. Our class rings were received during the month also. ln November, we planned a hayride for the public. As the weather would not permit the hayride, a party was held at the Home Economics Cottage. Also during this month we sold re- freshments at the home basketball games. We did something different in the line of refreshments by selling popcorn. ln December, we had a Christmas party with the Sophomore class with Mr. and Mrs. Fernandez as host and hostess. This was a very enioyable time for all. January found us proud to hear that one of our class members, Betty Wood- worth, had become an attendant to the queen of the rlomecoming February found us working on our play. ln March we gave our play, Alibi Bill, which was a great hit. A party was held after the last night of the play. April found us working out plans for the Junior-Senior Prom. The Prom was held the llth of May and was enioyed by all. The Prom breakfast was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Woodworth, Mrs. Woodworth being the advisor of the Senior Class. A lovely breakfast was enioyed by all. X Mr. and Mrs. Harold Keiser held a steak fry for our class in the spring. lt was fun for all of us and we wish to extend our thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Keiser. This brings us to the end of a year none of us will ever forget. lt has been fun, as well as work, for all. Junior Class Play Alibi Hill A 3-act farce, by Katharine Kavanaugh. First, there's Bill Smith. Everyone just natur- ally loves Bill. Anyone with his capacity for blundering always has a host of friends! Jim- mie is a mighty good scout, too, then there's Ned, the young man with too many fiancees, the cop with the slow-but-sure memory, a wise butler and perky maid, both good for laughs every time they show ther heads, Mother-in-law, with her anti-man slant, is a good comedy part, and Bill's pretty wife and the two fiancees are snap parts for attractive girls of contrasting types. The harder Bill tries to get out of his predicament, the thick- er grow the complications, and the louder and more frequent the laughs of the audi- ence. Bill's really not done anything so bad, but we're forced to admit that appearances are pretty much against him-and the blonde curls would take considerable explaining in most any household. Even the slick Ned gets let in for some of the free trouble that's cir- culating all over the lot when his mother and sister mistake his former girl friend for the rich fiancee and receive her with open arms, and turn the real fiancee out as an imposter. McNutt as the sponsor. Each class was given representation in the council as follows: Seniors: Robert Wade, Betty Osborne, Roberta Garner. Juniors: Roger Her- shiser, James Wade, Phyllis Edwards. Sophomores: Thomas Clemons, Joyce Montgomery.- Freshmen: Eugene Sands, Larry Brown. Eighth Grade: Ann Leak. Seventh Grade: Sandra Sanders. The Council organized with the fol- lowing officers: President .,.,,, ,.... R obert Wade Vice President , . , .Roberta Garner Secretary .... . , Betty Osborne Treasurer . ..,,....,, James Wade The Council has worked on two main proiects this year. The first was the establishment of a soft drink machine in the school. This machine may be used only at noon after everyone is through eating, and after school hours. The proceeds of the soft drink sales Betty Osborne, Roger Hershiser, Thomas Clemons, Larry Brown, Joyce Montgomery. will be used to purchase needed equipment for the school as directed by the Student Council. The Student Council sponsored the an- nual Homecoming basketball game this year. lt was held with Greenwich on their floor, January 5th, President Robert Wade acted as Master of Cere- monies as Captain Sam Risner, of the basketball team, placed the crown on Roberta Garner, Homecoming Queen. Roberta's attendants were Betty Os- borne and Betty Woodworth. Through the sale of refreshments th'e Student Council netted Sl8.06 from the program. Pictures of the game and dance which followed are in the year- book. Our Student Council meets regularly on the first Thursday of the month during the eighth period. The purpose of the organization is to aid and im- prove the conditions of the school by means of cooperation among the stu- dents with the faculty and adminis- tration. We are proud of our Council and its members. P. T. A. The North Fairfield P.T.A. is function- ing with a great degree of success this year. Donald Phillips is our Presi- dent. He has been pleased with the number of parents who regularly at- tend the meetings on the third Thurs- day of each month at 8:00 P.M. Mrs. Frank Hinkley is the Secretary- Treasurer. She has placed member- ship charts in each class room with stars after the student's name whose parents have joined the organization. The P.T.A. has sponsored several ac- tivities throughout the the year to aid in purchasing equipment for the school. Mr. Fernandez, as program chairman, has arranged many very interesting programs for the regular meetings. One of the largest meetings was the annual Christmas program put on by the Elementary students on December 2lst. We all hope that our P.T.A. organ- ization will continue to grow, and the spirit of cooperation between the par- ents and teachers will continue to im- prove. 28 Senior Band Back Row, Left to Right: Mary Lou Seidel Sharon Schimpff, Kathy Reed, Julia Predieri, Mr. Dilly, Nancy Gahring, Keith Bischoff, John Holden.
