In these classes the students study not only the language but the history and culture of the country and the people who use it. - With the use of the language lab students can improve their speaking ability during class and after school. Each language course sponsors a club. They are very active groups and add a great deal to the student's knowledge of the language they are Studying. Department Head is Mr. Adcock. The concepts taught in English are used later in other classes and long after grad- uation. The sophomores experiment with grammar and sentence structure, the juniors read and study such novels as The Scarlet Letter and the seniors study English literature and Shakespearean Drama. The English Department is offering a new course this year. The course, Humanities Seminar, is taught by the team teaching method and is open to seniors. Department Head is Miss Jacobson. Marvin Iaegers Iohn Reed U.S. History Modern Problems The Social Studies Department offers a variety of courses planned to better acquaint students with history and government. The sophomores study World History, the juniors study United States History and the sen- iors study Modern Problems. International Relations and Economics are open as one semester courses to juniors and seniors. Two advanced place- ment courses are offered in the departmentg American History for juniors and Modern European History for seniors.
