W16610 The Traffic Safety Committee, com- prised of members of some of the driver education classes, was a committee set up to further student safety measures at North. One of their main activities during the year was the sale of seat belts to the students and faculty. jim Cavanaugh served as chairman. ' FRONT ROW: Barbara Clunie, Nadine Murchy, and Pam Knutson. BACK ROW: Mr. Betterton, Miss Lamb, Rodney Barnes, Leroy Kellogg, and Bill Pederson. We All public announcements concerning North Eugene are handled through the Publicity Committee. The group, headed by John Buskirk, was responsible for dis- playing posters, putting articles in the paper and broadcasting school news on radio stations KEED and KERG. A record was kept of all news items publicized throughout the year. The Publicity Com- mittee was a line promoter of Highlander Spirit and an important public relations factor at North Eugene. jim Cavanaugh, Rick Byers, Dick Black, Bill Beebe, Karen Justis Jeannie Kupetz, Janice Delong, Barbara Roid, Vicki Rankin and Diane Winterbottom Loma Student loans are available to any stu dent requesting them for payment of student body fees. These low interest loans are easily attained at the main of fice. The committee set up the dates for dances and other activities during the year. This year they had charge of the annual Print and Cork Week, April 13-18. They sponsored various activities through- out the week and the traditional Print and Cork Dance on Saturday night. Chairman was Bob Smith. The North Eugene Student Council, made up of one student from each second period class, rnet bi-monthly to discuss and plan student activities. The members reported the decisions of the council to their classes and asked for suggestions or opinions. Aside from their usual business, the council made several major decisions during the year. jerry Gordon was selected as sergeant-of-arms, a new oiiice created to count standing votes and to keep the group in order. The members passed a suggestion for North's first Homecoming and later in the year voted down the controversial student court proposal. One of the underlying functions of the Stu- dent Council is to promote Highlander Spirit and this year's council has done an exceptionally fine job. Lounge The Student Lounge Committee was established this year to keep the student center in order and to maintain the juke- box. After thorough investigation they suggested that several study tables be added to the student lounge for additional study room. Phil Duerfeldt headed the committee. Darby Efteland and Mary Muhlheim. lam,-Club ' Inter-Club Council, a group composed of the presidents of all North High or- ganizations, was established to promote communications between school-sponsored clubs. The council set up a calendar for all club activities to avoid conflicting dates. If club presidents had any problems these were also discussed. Participa- tion in student government, committee membership, sports and theatrical productions are recognized by this award. The boy and girl of the month receive an appropriate pin, boutonniere or corsage, and professional photograph. Each month candidates are chosen in the second period classes and a committee makes the final choice. The co-chairmen for this year's committee were Mary Muhlheim and Darby Efteland.
