Under the leadership of the student body vice-president and a faculty advisor, the group publicized elections, distributed petitions, set up the polls and counted the ballots. They were also in charge of regulating the campaigns. This was one of the most important student committees and the members de- serve a vote of thanks for their High- lander Spirit.

YN, Sue Newman Secretary The student body ofiicers are the nucleus of student government. Combined with each of the class presidents they form the executive council which meets every other week to plan the agenda for student council meetings. Student body officers also attend inter-school meetings with the executive officers from South Eugene and Sheldon. President Leon Henderson led executive and student council meetings. As a representative of North Eugene he spoke to several civic groups outside of school. Vice-President Nancy Hale was in charge of the election committee and took Leon's place when he was absent. Barbara Clunie Treasurer Secretary Sue Newman recorded the proceedings of each council meeting and was in charge of all records concerning student government. Treasurer Barbara Clunie kept the students informed of the student body funds and headed the student loan committee. Student Manager Bob Smith was responsible for all pep assemblies, rally buses and social events. Historian Pat Henson kept a scrapbook of all school news and events for the year and served as parliamentarian for student council. THIRD ROW: Ellen Hoyman, Diana Brown, Kammeyer, Warren Youel, Rod Leland, Derek Iverson, Lindy Bell, Paul Michael, Bob Swan, Phil Duerfeldt, new The chief duty of the Social Com- mittee was the planning of the year's social calendar. The committee set up the dates for dances and other activities during the year. This year they had charge of the annual Print and Cork Week, April 13-18. They sponsored various activities through- out the week and the traditional Print and Cork Dance on Saturday night. Chairman was Bob Smith. The North Eugene Student Council, made up of one student from each second period class, rnet bi-monthly to discuss and plan student activities. The members reported the decisions of the council to their classes and asked for suggestions or opinions. Aside from their usual business, the council made several major decisions during the year. jerry Gordon was selected as sergeant-of-arms, a new oiiice created to count standing votes and to keep the group in order. The members passed a suggestion for North's first Homecoming and later in the year voted down the controversial student court proposal. One of the underlying functions of the Stu- dent Council is to promote Highlander Spirit and this year's council has done an exceptionally fine job.
