AES AMERICANS ABRCDAD 1982 all Nick Meyers Iapan My experience started on Iune 11, I flew to San Diego. On the 15th, I joined the other 63 Americans bound for Iapan at the Univer- sity of Southern California. We had two days of orientation and Ilget- ting acquainted. After that we flew from Los Angeles to Tokyo. Once we were in Tokyo, we again had orientation so that we had time to learn japanese, six hours a day for three days! Finally, on the 22nd of Iune, I met my host family, I was nervous beyond belief! But thanks to my advisor, Ito, my school's English teacher, Mrs. Sato, and my trusty dictionary, their warm ways soon calmed my fears. The Aokies, my family, were extremely kind, thoughtful, and giving. I had a wonderful experience, as a matter of fact, the best of my THQ' Wolfgang and Michael lune 28, 1982 was the beginning of a dream come true for me. I will always cherish those eight weeks I spent in Germany. lronically, I lived in wine country while in C-ermany. My area pro- duced the famous Ahr wine. With all of the similarities, it was easy to remember home, but Germany has something appealing and tantaliz- ing to it. I would like to thank the people of North East who support our local AFS Chapter. Without your support, young people, such as myself, wouldn't be able to live a dream. life! I I I id, a V., ,. I met an AFS student who spent her AFS year in America, and we became best friends. She spoke a lot about her experience, and I began to think my dream might come true. My dream came true and it is better than I ever im- agined. I want to thank my family in France for letting me leave, as I know it is not very easy. I want to thank my family here, the Mongs. Ever since I came, they have made me feel at home. I am considered just like a member of their family. I am very happy with them. Because of my new family and friends, except for the language, I don't feel like I am in a foreign country. They are so friendly, I really feel welcome. I hope I will be able to work for AFS in the future, to try to share one of my greatest ixperiences. y y .ff J -f ,fi if. ,,iK .f i X 1. f 1 f f ,, ,f ,. ,f 1 I , f M if .,-a ff ' ff i iff! 1 A fllf' Q K al il ll L lll li l l A S if-ft, 'fa X f ,A af t,.,i.,-f.
