AFS I 983 The most impressive experiences of my life have begun this year - here in North East among all these wonderful people. Of course, there have been both happy and difficult moments. It is not a nice experience to not be able to ex- press yourself. lt's frustrating when you can't say your ideas or whatever else you want to. But once you break the language barrier, you feel a lot better, and you feel a little bit more independent. You feel as if you are a real part of the different culture. When you think about going to another country that is far away from your home, your family, and every person that you know, you feel a little afraid. Once you have ar- rived in your place of destination, believe me, you think you haven't left home yet. Because of AFS International, my host family - the Keddies, and my many new friends, this is the way l now feel. Thanks again to all of those who made my AFS trip possible. I know that the memory of North East, PA, will be one of the most beautiful I will have in my life. 'M 5. lorge Tomizawa Brazil Rafael Farru Chile On August 19, 1982, I began the biggest dream of my life. I arrived here in North East, this marvelous town. I was living the biggest experience of my life. Since I arrived here, I felt like I was in my home because North East is so beautiful and quite equal to my city in Brazil. But my city is larger than North East. The school here is good, too, with good teachers and subjects. When I go back to Brazil, I can tell everybody there how marvelous this town is. I can say how nice the people are, and how cold it is, too! I am very happy to be living this experience and to know another counf try's culture. AFS is not only an exchange of students between countries, but it is a transfer of ideas bet- ween cultures. I need to give thanks to my marvelous family, the Shafers, who help me all the time. I also would like to thank the AFS chapter of North East that gave me this chance to live the big dream of my life. I will never forget any of them ever.
