As a teacher of English and history, Mrs. Porter upheld high standards of accomplishment. She was a friend of her studentsg and, as such she was always ready to encourage them in their scholar' ship and to help them in their personal problems. Many of them kept in touch with her long after their graduation. In addition to her teaching, Mrs. Porter took an active part in extracurricular activities. She was a faculty adviser for the Tattler, the annual yearbook, for many yearsg a member of the Scholarship Committee which checks on the qualifications of honor studentsg and a member of the committee on the revision of school rules. 0 ma gzanore loiering MISS ELEANORE SPIERING For many years North Division has been fortunate to number on its faculty a teacher, excellent I1Ot only in the field of English but also in the performance of duties beyond the scope of the classroom. As a member of the Guidance Department, as Chief Girls' Counsellor under Mr. Weriier, and as Dean of Girls under Mr. Micthalak she wielded strong influence and accomplished much. lt was she who inaugurated and systematized the keeping of detailed student records. She helped to prepare the guidance program manual. Through her understanding of individual needs and capacities she was able by tactful, patient, and persistent effort to lead the student in the right direction. Under her sponsorship student government was revived in 1939 and a new constitution written. To her efforts in the Writers' Club many a student ascribes his success in writing and in leadership. In everything she set a high standard of conduct and achievement. Honesty of purpose and fearlessness of expression consistently characterized her work. To Miss Spiering go our best wishes for happiness, May she enjoy many years of richly deserved leisure.
