They Spent A Night In Space A Trip To NASA On Wednesday, April 20, twenty students and chaperones left NDHS for Huntsville, Alabama. Their Desti- nation was the Space Center at NASA. The ride all day put them in Huntsville around 9:30 P.M. Thursday morning the students and sponsors had breakfast at the Space Center. After breakfast the activities began with a bus ride of the Red Stone Ammunition plant. At the plant they saw the testing sites of the Jupiter and shuttle booster rockets. They also saw where the fuel was stored for all types of rockets. Next, the group toured the Rocket Museum where they saw all types of conventional and military rockets- both new and old. The highlight of the morning was the Lunar landing simulation. The stu- dents were strapped into a couch while the entire room spun around at about 35 mph. The couches fell back and the rooms' floor dropped out from underneath the students' feet. The entire time this was happening the students were watching a movie of a rocket simulation. After the lunar land- ing simulator movie, the group re- turned for a more down to earth mov- ie. The movie was about astronauts' dreams and determination. After the movie the students were able to deter- mine how much they weighed on the moon and Mars. They also saw the entire photo history of all the astro- nauts. By 3 P.M. they had to load the bus for the ride home. Everyone agreed that the bus drivers Mel and Tom were great. The trip was a joint venture be- tween NDHS, Mansfield High School, Logansport High School, and Stanley High School. .. iv, k 4, Even though they returned at 3 A.M. everyone was enthusiastic about wanting to make this an annual trip.
