U Because North DeSoto isn't a large school, it's easy for students to grow very close to each other. We find that not only do people. stick together at school, but after school and on weekends as well. Weekends seem to be more for hanging out with all of your friends from NDI-I, and what is sometimes meant to be a date for two people often turns out to be a party for a whole group. Being with friends has moved dating down the list to -H2 for weekend fun. ' .ii k--. I The beginning of a new school year marked a time not only for change but also involvement. Getting into the school spirit wasn't always a 'walk in the park' for students, but supportive parents and fans helped make things alot easier this year. Thursday night, the evening before each football game, heated up as school kids from all grades, sometimes ignoring rain and missing the Cosby Show, gathered at the home of ci player or cheerleader, and because of the support and encouragement shown, sparked the determination of victory in each football player's mind. On Halloween, the Griffin team was scheduled to play in Many. Because the players were to miss their Halloween festivities, ci holiday bonfire was creatively planned and held at, where else but, the Alewyne house. From pumpkins and pinatas to ghost stories and scavenger hunts, the bonfire seemed to be better than the actual Halloween night. The eerie location of the pep rally that night kindled a memory of a Halloween some of us will never forget. A long, dark, and extremely narrow driveway is no place to be stranded, especially for someone who had just been told the story of the spooky ghosts that haunted the Alewyne plantation. But when a traffic jam cut off the only passage home, flashbacks of hockey masks and claw-like fingernails ignited in our minds. The narrow driveway made it impossible for two cars to pass each other, and when attempted, caused a ten car pile up, leaving no way in and, more importantly, no way out! Being stranded on a dark road surrounded by trees isn't exactly what five girls considered fun at the time. But that was before they noticed that over half the football team was stranded with them! Replacing fear with fun, we joined in the walk up the pitch dark driveway and found not only the culprit, but also a damsel in distress. A tearful, cheerleader's Cutlass had been ditched, leaving no room for other cars to pass. After the hard work and trouble of getting a truck, the car refused to be pulled out. Our last hope was to find out if those long hours of football practice had paid off after all. After a while of pushing and pulling, the team managed to ease the car from the ditch without a scratch, and we soon found ourselves safely in our cars and on our way home. - Karen Hodges V - - A .jkll lgk lull A ,. 2-,L::.,::VEA AV V... But what a relief! Mother Nature was lenient, and al- though it rained all week, Friday morning's sunshine was a hint of the pleasant cloudless skies that roofed the Homecoming ceremony. Although it was dreary outside spirits were definitely not dam- pened as students, family, and friends cheered the court as each representative and their escort were introduced. Af'-21. , The Homecoming court, each maid beautifully dressed from head to toe, were escorted by their fa- thers or relatives. Our Homecom- ing queen, Bridget Erwin, was pre- sented a bouquet of roses by assis- tant principal, Mr. Donnie Robin- son, and was crowned by North DeSoto's principal, Mr. Huey Bry- ant. After the ceremony, the queen and her court were treated royally and given front row seats to the Homecoming game. -I . I B xxx X, X X x 'X A ! This was the night of our Junior! Senior Prom. Bursting with energy and excite- ment, the Juniors, Sen- iors, and friends rocked the night away. This was to be one of the more memorable nights of our lives. Let's hit the dance floor, said Robert Smith. Eager to dance, I took his hand and Stop lls Now!!! danced my feet off Around 9 or 10 most of us were getting hungry, so we left to devour some food. After satis- fying our growling stomachs, we went our separate ways. No one knows exactly where anyone else went, but after partying down and munching out, we went home and slept like there was no tomorrow. Prom was truly a Night to Re- member. By the end of the evening her hair will fall and his cologne will wear ofll but they'll still have fun anyway! if Is There Life After High School? Oh, great! The first day of school and my sengmr year! Come on, let's get this over wit ! Christmas vacation, finally! What a year this is! I say we just get it over with! Gosh! Graduation's next week! Great! Then I'll be free! Free to do what I want! Sleep late, stay out all night! I can't wait! I just have to get this week over with! I'm free! It's over! I have my diploma! Now, it's party time from here on out! No more getting up early! I can just lay around and ave lots of fun!! What, Dad? Job? What Job? Hey! Where'd my senior year go? Each of the graduating seniors held different thoughts, but the one almost all of them shared was Where'd my senior year go? And it was true. The Senior '87 school year didn't last long, leaving most graduates with the question, Where do I go from here? It is definitely time to move on, a chance to find out that there really is life after high school . After ceremony, Delores Graham stands proud and tall beside her mother. Dore To Be AT The Top!! hmmm Q fa The Valedictorian of North DeSoto's graduating class of 1987 is Chad Hebert, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Hebert of Stonewall. Chad received a full academic scholarship to LSUS, where he plans to major in prelaw. North DeSoto had a first, this year - two Salutatori- ans. Carey Martin and Leah Rieve have grade point averages too close to call, so both are co-Salutatori- ans. Carey is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Martin of Frierson. Carey plans to study Agriculture Eco- nomics at LSU, and is the recepient of several schol- arships which will aid him financially. Leah Rieve is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Rieve of Stonewall. Leah plans to attend LSU-S where she will major in prepharmacology. Memories To Hold Waiting with anticipation, All nervous and cold, Your palms get sweaty, It's like I've always been told. IT prepares us To be a part of knowledge and is The key To our dreams. Educafion is worrhwhile, and I dare you To 'fry if!!! AWY 1 On Friday, April 3, l987, nine stu- dents of NDHS. along with Mrs. Wil- son and Mrs. Berry. left for LSU Ba- ton Rouge ready for a fun filled weekend. The purpose of this trip was to take an exam in our various subjects for the State Literary Rally. That evening we arrived tired from the ride, but ready for action. After cruising the campus and finding our classrooms, we headed out to eat. Our final decision for dining was Chile's restaurant and guess what happened to be right next door: Pho- ton, the ultimate laser tag game. Being the adventurous students that we are, we decided to give it a try. Watching the game being played from the observation deck reassured us of our fighting abilities. In order to play the game. a passport is issued to you with your picture and everyth- ing. We loaded up with all the equip- ment and it was off to the battle- field. One of the best parts about the game was not getting killed. Ten points were gained when you shot a player from the other team and ten points were lost when you got shot. So we fought to the finish and got a few points. We returned to the motel hoping to get enough sleep for the next day. lt had been a full but fun day. The next morning it was rise and shine to take our tests, which we all did our best on. Then off to the big city of Stonewall to crash in our own homes. - ' viz. -act Ti-I-. wwf 'T VT V ....
