Seems like only yesterday that we graduated. Time really flies. I believe our class has been quite prosperous. I hear that you have opened a studio in New York. Yes, that's what I've always wanted. After fi nis hi ng business school I went to work at Western Electric. I'm a bookkeeper there, and I really like it. Seems like most everybody is here. I got a lette r from Benny Link who's a colonel in the army in China now. He couldn't be here because he couldn't get a furlough. ' I see that Roger Woosley and Alfred Nifong were able to fly in from Fort Lee, Va, Did you notice Sonny Everhart drive up in that Cadillac? I hea r he's quite a Romeo these days. Look over there at Arlene Bates and Janie Berrier, They seem to have their eyes on hi m too. About'the time one of them lands Sonny they won't have to slave away as secretaries for Wade Curry who now owns one of the Cotton mills in Lexington, Oh, and Betty Rose is a secretary to her husband's contracting business. By the way, I was talking to Peggy Essick a while ago and she told me she is now a metropolitan opera star. Peggy always did like to sing. Did you hear about Harold Nifong? Who would have thought he would be a highway patrol- cnan after the way he used to drive. ' Why, there is Lonnie Shoaf. I hea r he is becoming a successful dentistwith Mrs. James Ashmore, the for ner Becky Whitlow as his receptionist. li I see Toby has his wife Susan and his family with him. And what about Avon Mize! Who would ever have thought he would become a lawyer. Yes, and he has set up quite a pra ctice in Lexington. Doris Leatherman is his private secretary. Hey, I hear music. Who brought a radio? I don't believe it's a radio. It sounds like the three girls I saw singing on television last week: Lenora Newsom, Carolyn Calloway, and Lawana Hunter, Heavens! What crashed? Oh! It's Matthew Hanes. What does he thinkthis is, Bowman Gray Stadium? Oh! He hit Sonny's Cadillac. I guess he's resting on his laurels since he won that race at Darlington, He's come a long way since he used to race on the Midway Ball Diamond. But I guess everything will be all right. There goes the sheriff, Charlie Foltz, to straighten things out. I talked with Mrs, Donald Nifong, the former Virginia Yokley. She was so glad we had t hi s reunion before she and Donald move to California where he has contracted a job. I must talk to her before I leave, but I see she is talking to .Ioan Leonard now, I don't suppose you've s e e n any of Joan's paintings in New York. I hear she has won several outstanding prizes for her art work. I'm glad to hear she's making good. She a lwa ys could draw well. Oh, that reminds me, Jack Weatherman is now a commercial artist, and he designed the cover for the May issue of C ha r m Ma ga zine for which Nann Sheppard modeled. Oh, what ever happened to Shirley Hedrick? Why, I should have mentioned this before Shirley works in the same office that I work in at Western Electric. Oh, look who just dr ove up, Leona and Mike. Aren't their two little boys cute ? Did you know that Leona,Annetta and Shelby are all working together in a beauty shop? No! Yes, and Annetta and Shelby are married too. To Joe and Alton I suppose ? Ralph Ball married Annetta's sister, too, didn't he ? Look at that dish that Pat Harper is uncovering over there. No wonder that looks so delicious. Pat is the dietician at North Davidson now. Speaking of Pat, whatever happened to Jane Yountz and Alice Hege ?

Evelyn Don: Jane is married and she is a French teac he r . Alyce is making a career of nursin . Oh, is ihe a nurse too? I didn't know about her, but I was in the City Hospital the other day to see Mrs. Bobby Clodfelter, you know, Virginia Motsinger, and I saw that Ruby Howard, Sylvia Hedrick, and Nancy Weaver are nurses up there. What's wrong with Virginia? I happened to run into her doctor, Ann York, on the street the other day, and she told rrme that Virginia had broken her ankle while helping Bobby build a new tobacco barn. I hear quitea few of the boys in our class turned out to be farmers too.On .ny way to work everyday I pass by Herbert I'esh's big dairy farr1,and I also saw in the Dispatch last week that George Sowers was e le cte d farmer of the week. What about Wayne Nifong a nd Bobby Boger '? They always seemed interested in farming. They we nt to State College. Wayne majored in animal husbandry, and Bobby is an agriculture teacher. I hear that Bruce is a veterinarian. Isn't that Dolores Saintsing over there ? Of course you know its Dolores Maxwell now . Wonder if those four children with her are hers. Well,if there isn't Evva Penry. I've read about her teacn's many victories last season. I bet she really feels at home coaching at North Davidson. She does. The girls like her as well as we use d to like Miss Owens. Look who she s talking to, Nancy Willard, who now teaches in the commercial de- partment. Who are those two girls over there? I'hat's Carolyn Whisnant and Barbara Leonard. They've be en in New York, and it just so happened that we came down on the same train. Carolyn is now a Blues singer, and Barbara is her manager. Here comes a little chartreuse Ford. That must be Virgie and Mike. That's the boy she was dating 7 years ago in high school. When did they get onarried? They didn't. I'hey're still dating. Matte r of fact, I talked to them the other night at the show. Say, don't Sherry and Bill Lanier own We lc ome Drive -In now? How in the world do they rmanage working at night with five children to look after ? Oh, that bring s in another classfnate. .Ioan Michael runs a nursery in Wel- cone, and Sherry and Bill leave their children there, Who planted all these pretty flowers on the lawn '? It was a 4-H c lub proje ct . They've done quite a lot to improve the school grounds under the supervision of Phyllis Si nk . She always was interested in 4-H work. Why, there's Archie Nifong. I haven't seen him in a long time. Wonder what he's doing? I talked to hirm, and he told me he is running a sawmill. Oh, my goodness, who are those two little boys climbing over the table '? Why, can't you guess? They're Nancy and Je r ry Johnson's twins. It really keeps Nancy busy keeping up with them, Who are those two women sitting over there under the shade tree ? One of them looks like Carolyn Beeson. I believe it is Carolyn, and the other one is Jean Essick. I guess they are both still patiently waiting on t heir men in service. Oh, look, who just drove up. Charles Beck. I guess with his job as a greyhound bus driver he couldn't get here any sooner. Isn't that Shirley Hinkle putting socnething onthe table ? She should have some- thing delicious since she owns Hinkle's B a r be que . I'd like to go on and on talking about our classmates, but right now I'm more interestedin that barbecued ham on the table. Class Prophets: Evelyn Perryman Don Murphy I -. . -i -.
