The club was tounded in May, l922, by Arthur W. Harris, who is still at its head. lt is devoted to the consideration of mathematics and special attention is placed on the game of chess. During the year the mem- bers ot the club participate in chess tournaments with different clubs throughout the state. Ipaq, Ofzfa The Sports Year At North Dallas The 1947 football season was a successful one for the Bulldogs. Early in the year in the inter-city games North Dallas gained recognition as a strong defensive team. ln District 8 AA our eleven defeated first Sunset, then Adamson. Defeat came at the hands of Woodrow Wil- son, but our next game with Tech put us back into a close race for the city championship. A tie with Forest gave North Dallas a co-championship with Forest and Sunset. This makes l947 an historic football year, since this is the first time we have attained city championship honors since 1936. The Bulldogs started the basketball season with four lettermen: Pete Bennett, Roy Hughes, Nippy Williams, and Bobby Donohue. Other than these, letters were awarded the following for the 1948 season: Ralph Kendall, Calvin Axtell, Eugene Hunter, Roy Grubbs, Howard Slaughter, Dale Shipp, Kenneth Koehler, and Manager Larry McMillan. Scores are shown on the basketball page. ln track the Bulldogs have a high standard set for them by last year's team, which Won the city championship. The outcome of our initial triangular meet with Forest and Crozier Tech points to a repetition of last year's success. Baseball, too, has last year's city championship record to live up to. Expectations are great with returning lettermen Boy Hughes, Neil Neilson, Buster Bowles, William Guy, Ioe Good- speed, Iimmy Dougherty, besides new men. The tennis team with two returning lettermen, Betty Burlew and Avon Malone and forty- five new candidates, is looking forward to retaining its usual high rank in the city meets. Reserve Officers Training Corps The object and aim of the R.O.T.C. in general are: 1.
