E ll 5' l .1 l I ii li H4 if ir 4. 5 bi Debate--Girls The girls, debating team was composed of Lovie Lewis and Ora Nelle. RESOLVED: That the Philippines should be granted their independence at the end of a live year period,', was the Interscholastic League question this year. Lovie Lewis, a member of last years' team, was back into the field even stronger than before. She has proved herself a finished speaker as was shown in all her debates. Ura Nelle, a new member, was a credit to North Dallas as one of its representatives. She hopes to enter into the contests again next year. Debate started early in the season and much interest was manifested. Practice debates were held with the following high schools: North Ft. Worth, Central Ft. Worth, Highland Park, Royse City, Richardson, Greenville, and Corsicana. The girls won their full share of honors and did excellent work both in argumentation and delivery. Debate-Boys L The boys' debating team was composed of W. B. Lee and Rollo Kid- well with Marion VVagly as alternate. Both members were new in the field and did well. They hope to be back next year. Practice debates were held with Terrell, North Ft. Worth, Royse City, and Corsicana, and our team won the last two by a two to one decision. .... 4 I 5 at i n.. bv Deelamation Contest The first preliminaries of the lnterscholastic League Contest were held February twenty-sixth and twenty-seventh. Those participating were Josephine Abraham, Marie Walker, Dorothy Burt, Dorraee Fisher, Gladys Bowman, Flizabeth Hayden, Nellie Maud lVIcBroom, -loe Smiley, .lack Pollard, Paul Lindsey, Reaford Rodgers, lack Webster, Samuel Fly, and William Rcmbert. Paul Lindsey and Josephine Abraham were awarded first place, joe Smiley and Marie VVallcer, second, and Reaford Rodgers and Dorracc Fisher, third. The final preliminaries were held in the assembly of Nlarch twelfth. Fulfilling the predieation made by many in the school, Joe Smiley has stepped forward to take his brother's place in North Dallas. Marie Walker and joe Smiley were given first places. Joe delivered, Dead- He Was Immortal, by Cooper, and Nlarie gave Living Flame of Amer- icaf' by Lane. The judges for the contest were Mr. Flmer Scott, of the Open Forum, Mr. Hugh lVlcLaughlin, and Mr. David Hardy, attorneys.
