'ff i ' ' FQREWORD To the citizens of North Dakota, we, the students of North Dakota State Agriculture College, extend a very sincere thank you. Without your constant effort and support we would not have pro- gressed as we have. North Dakota State has grown and developed to the level it now attains because the citizens of North Dakota have given financial and moral support to the State Board of Higher Education and to the College Administration. Some of this growth has been in physical factors such as buildings, paved streets, sidewalks, and landscaping. The support does not end here however, for without a student enroll- ment a college has no function. The enrollment at our college has increased many fold in the early years of the decade. With the increased numbers in student enrollment, the high qual- ity of young men and women has remained high. Graduates and former students of North Dakota State have always held a high level in our national society. They have seldom been overshadowed by students of other colleges and have always proven loyal to our nation's heritage. The students of our college make possible the printing of this, the 1957 BISON. We are proud that our college has supported student publications of this nature in the past and we hope it supports the equivalent in the future. When a state such as North Dakota took action in the last century to support the colleges of its land, the need was felt for more and higher education. Men and women were to be trained to teach the younger generation, to do research to further develop our already high standard of living, to serve the public in our nation for better livingg and to assist in' developing the abilities needed to produce more foodvof higher quality for our nation and the world. . It is the feeling of this writer that our colleges have lived up to this hope and expectation very well. It is however, necessary that to do this adquately in the future we, the citizens of our state and nation, will have to continue the needed financial and moral support to the colleges. For without' added support, no college, whether it be in North Dakota or any other state of the nation, can possibly endure the needs of time and expansion. Time and expansion take their toll and add their burdens. Our colleges need new buildings, more buildings, more qualified instructors and more financial support for research and training. It is with this thinking that the editor of this publication puts forth this plea North Dakota has been and will be a banner state in our national economic society. Food and an educated youth will build a nation. A high quality of both ingredients will result in a nation of high quality. We, of North Dakota owe it to our nation's future to continue to give the moral and financial support necessary to build tomorrow's nation and tomorrow's life.
