Parents’ Day Parents’ Day was held Friday, March 23, at NDSSS. Despite the cold and blustery weather, an estimated 1,400 parents visited their son or daughter and toured the college’s facilities. A record 1,474 parents and sons or daughters attended the noon luncheon and a large number of parents and students attended a special Parents' Day program in Bute Gym. Snow flurries and the cold weather didn't seem to stop the parents from attending Parents’ Day. as many arrived early Thursday to hear the Music groups perform. Byron Johnson, representing the Wahpeton Chamber of Commerce’s Education Committee, presented an award for the parents traveling the farthest distance. The award was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Carl Seifert of Poison, Montana. The Seiferts came 1,150 miles to visit their daughter, llene Hamilton, a second year student in Dental Hygiene. Parents’ Day

Spring Music This Spring, the members of the NDSSS Wildcat Singers and Stage Band went on a six-day concert tour of 13 schools in South Dakota and Minnesota. They spent three days in South Dakota and two days in Minnesota. The music they presented was a variety of pop and swing music. After returning from their tour, the groups performed a special concert performance in Bute Gym. Tilford Kroshus directs the folk group and George Helm leads the stage band. 8 Spring Music

Women’s Track Women’s track continued to prosper at NDSSS this year as the team won its second consecutive Region 13 title. Science’s outstanding high jumper, Joan Brockhaus from Rosholt, SD, qualified for the National Junior College Athletic Association track and field meet held in Eugene, Ore., in the high jump, the 100 meter and 200 meter dash events. In the national meet, she placed second in the high jump with a 5’9’’ jump. Joan set new state indoor and outdoor records in every meet she participated in this season. In the state meet, SSS set eight new records and placed second to BJC. Brockhaus jumped 5’6” to win the high jump, ran the 100 meter dash in 13.27 for a first place win, and finished second in the 200 meter dash. Second-year runner Becky Obcrfoell captured three first place victories and one second. She won the 3,000 meter, the 1500 meter, and the 800 meter runs, and placed second to teammate Deb Krause in the 5,000 meter run. Lori Legler placed first in the long jump event, second in the 400 meter run, and fourth in the 200 meter event.
