Greetings from the Governor It is a great pleasure for me to once again have this opportunity of extending my greetings and commendation to the faculty and students of the North Dakota State School of Science, through the pages of the Agawasie. For those of you now completing your formal education, I know that this past year has been one of recurring challenges which you have successfully met and overcome. Yet each new challenge brings with it a new opportunity. The background and training you have obtained here will serve you well in the years ahead. I know, too, that this has been a rewarding year for members of the faculty as you now see those you have trained so well prepare to move into a new area of responsibility in our state and nation. I congratulate each of you on your achievements in the past and extend my best wishes to you for even more successes in the future. Sincerely yours. Give Them Your Best Your editor of the 1965-66 school annual did much planning for this yearbook during tire summer months before the school year started. She did so hoping to make it the best of any published to date. Her attitude Impressed mo immensely, and I was satisfied she would Imbuo all members of her A ga waste stall with the desire to produce an annual that can be rated with tire best. Dean E. J. Babcock, whose picture hangs in our library, gave the following chargo to those who wero to come after him In planning and developing tire State School of Science: Always give them your best. It was the late Dean E. J. Babcock who made a survey In the 1920's to determlno what might be tho best goals for educational service on that campus at Wahpeton as no definite objectives had been established. What Is scon on our campus in recent years is what Doan Babcock had outlined in his recommendations. And what Is more, I can assure one and all that our staff members in every department of tho State School of Science, are guided in their work by tho Dean's final recommendation: Give thorn your best. At tho time tills is written, I have no idea of tho makeup of tho 1965-66 Agawaslo. but 1 am satisfied that It will bo a good product becauso the odltor lias said: We want it to be the best. My good wlshos aro extended to each of you who complete courses of instruction this year and leave for employment or to continue your education. I do hope you will Join the SSS Alumni Association. We will need your help In tho years ahead. To those of you who plan to return noxt year to complete your work on our campus, I bid a most cordial Welcome. Wo will bo looking for you In Soptombor, 1966. Sincerely, To the Students of 1965-66 Inasmuch as this marks tho onding of my first complete year on the campus, it is a particular pleasure to have boon askod to submit a statement for inclusion In tho Agawaslc. Extensive Journeys around tho United states have afforded me the opportunity to view firsthand countless Institutions of higher loaming as well as those at tho high school level. Many claim excellence in their instructional staff, curricula, students, and facilities as well. In tho opinion of this writer, the State School of Scienco Is heads and shoulders above any like Institution he has been privileged to visit. Y'ou, In addition to all other citizens who are sharing in the many benefits afforded by this college, have every right to proudly acclaim that you are, and will continue to be, a walking testimonial on behalf of tho SSS program of excellence . Mediocrity Is a term that has been excluded from our vocabulary since it connotos moderate ability or valuo. As tho old cllcho states, What's so great about being avorage or mediocre. It simply means you're as close to the bottom as you aro to the top. Our sense of purpose demands that we strive for and attain tho top (excollonco) In all of our endeavors. My sincoro congratulations to all who havo fulfilled their purpose at SSS. Wo know that your education and training will place you In good stead regardless of tho mission you sook to accomplish. A cordial wolcomc Is extended to thoso who shall return next fall to complete their objective. Completing your program will considerably enhance your opportunities to be successful In the Immediate futuro. Sincerely, Jl. 13
