This is the age of the super-sonic plane, of automation, the sputnik, of space travel and rapid technological changes. Basic training for the skills required in this age is a must. Basic training in an atmosphere such as that which is available here at the State School of Science provides each person with a broad background of knowledge and skills which arc so necessary to meet the demands of our present society. This is a time of crisis only for the untrained. This is a time of opportunity for each of you who have spent this past school year here at Science. We are living in a time when changes of all kinds will continue to modify the way we live and work. This is progress. New forms of energy, new kinds of machines, new ways of doing things are being thrust upon us from all sides requiring a people who have the background of training and education which enables them to apply the new technologies. May each of you who have attended here this year be instrumental in and assisting with our technological progress. JAMES A. HORTON
