Class History It was a cool, crisp September morning in ' l947 that the doors of North Cove opened to a group of shiny faced, scared to death kids. Fifteen tiny voices, barely audible, whispered: Leslie Brown, Ray Byrd, Wilma Carpenter, Frances Cline, Roy Dale, Zelda l arris, Loretta Hensly, Ellen Hollifield, Rosa Hollifield, Clarence Holtsclaw, Jack Lonon, Wayne Ollis, Stanley Swofford, Royce Wiseman, and Jacob Wright, There were many others, of course, but they have, by ill chance, forsaken us. Slowly but surely we acquired the rudiments of readin , writin , and ' rithmetic, and somehow we managed to get through the primary and elementary grades. In the eighth grade Josephine Foxx, Chalmers Tipton, and Kenneth Garaventa joined our ranks. Finally that great day arrived - High School! The first couple of weeks we were thoroughly and completely initiated. We elected Kenneth as our class president, and Mr. Johnson ' s firm hand guided us through our Freshman year. That year we obtained a new member, Dennis Biddix. In the tenth grade we had a new teacher, Mr. Childers, who was to prove himself as a faithful and dear friend to us all, as well as a wonderful teacher. He was our home room teacher that year. We elected Royce as our class president. In the eleventh grade we had Mrs. McNeil as our home room teacher. The highlights of that year were the Junior play and the Junior -Senior Banquet. Ralph Brendle joined us that year. Royce was class president again that year. We are finally SENIORS! Mrs. Brummitt is our home room sponsor and is ably directing us through our last year. This year we elected Jacob class president. Again we added a new member to our class, Calvin Pittman. This year we as Seniors have mixed feelings. We are happy be- cause we are about to reach a goal for which we have struggled strenuously twelve long years, and at the same time we are sad be- cause we realize that soon we must bid good-by to our cherished friends and classmates.
