1r There's a place for us, Somewhere a place for us. f9 Peace and quiet and open air ' Wait for us somewhere. Someday, somewhere We'll find a new way of living, ii I I I J I I . Hold my hand and we're halfway there. Hold my hand and I'll take you there, Somehow, Someday, Somewhere. We Dedicate: Mr. James O. Hissom joined the N.C.H. teaching staff in1960. In doing so he assumed the task of being not only Ju- nior and Senior Band Director, but also the leader of the fifth and sixth grade Beginner and Intermediate Bands. Over the past ten years the Band program has more than doubled in size, largely be- cause of Mr. Hissom's willing- ness to be more than a teacher to his students. Great skilll pa- tience, and planning are re- quired to lead groups as large and varied as these. The Senior Band made approximately twenty performances this year and those do not include the Dance Band and Pep Band per- formances we enjoy so much. For a decade of service we would like to express our ap- preciation to Sir . Therefore we dedicate the 1970 Ilium to Mr. Hissom. At last the long awaited Senior year has arrived! We, as Seniors, approach the culmination of four long hard years of high school, with mixed emotions. We have had our downfalls, but the disappointments were few compared to the many achievements and excite- ment from Homecoming to Commencement. The past four years hold many won- derful memories for all of us, and we only hope to further our achievements and broaden our interests in the future. We wish the best of luck to our fellow classmates Of1970! SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS: Ed Raisor, President; Claudia Matson, Vice-President; Paula Berger, Secretary; Heather Tobertga, Treasurer. TOWNS DAVID VONARB In Memoriam HOWARD GAMBREL was one of the few who could be called everyone's friend. Hi5 humor and friendliness made him well-liked and his passing left an unoccupied space in his class. Howie was always ready with a helping hand or word for everyone. Hi5 courage throughout his illness is perhaps a fitting way of remembering him, as a determined person who even in adversity can find light. Memories of Howard are all we have now, but they are among our most valuable possessions. 26 Junior High During their first years at the high school, the Junior High is learning what it means to work together as a class. Hold my hand and I'll take you there, 164 Somehow, Someday, Somewhere. 166 1 fxm Mr. Dick Chiara, the representative from Ameri- can Yearbook Company has been a tremendous help to us in the planning of the Ilium, We would like to thank him for all the time, work, and pa- tience he has given us to help make the book a success. Chuck Wichman, one of the photographers from Osborne took all of the organization pictures and most 01 the sports and feature pictures which appear in the Ilium. We feel we were privileged to have such an excellent photographer, and we thank him. In addition, we would like to thank Mrs. Betty Megerle of Osborne for all of her help and prompt service throughout the year. One of the joys of this involved and complex re- sponsibility, is getting to know everyone in school, at the Board of Education, and in the PTA. I wish to express my appreciation for the wonderful understanding and cooperation I have received from the Editors, Debbie and Jane, the Staff of Ilium, students at NCH, Teachers, and Administra- tors. Commercial participants like Osborne Photo Labs and Ameri- can Yearbook Rep., Mrt Dick Chiara and our generous advertis- ers have all contributed to lighten the anxieties. As our Editors have said: Its good not to be at school to miss it all. The Sponsor's leav- ing is that kind of graduation, a satisfying memory of the Year- book that I will always cherish. Thank you and Goodbye to all. We wish the new Editors and Sponsor, the joy of producing a fine yearbook. Naomi C. Jacobs Debbie Mosc'nel, Co-Editor When I was asked to be Co-Ed- itor of the Ilium last year, I knew it would be a big job, but I didnlt fully realize how much responsi- bility, time, work and planning are involved in producing a suc- cessful book. I am glad I had the opportunity to be a part of the planning and decision making because the reward of seeing the finished book makes all the time and work worthwhiIe. Jane and I appreciate all the work the mem- bers of the staff have contributed, and I want to say a special thank you to Mrs. Jacobs for all her help and guidance, and wish her the best of everything in the future. I have many wonderful memories of NCH and I'm sure the Ilium will help preserve them. I will miss all the familiar faces at school and I wish Pat and Shirley the best of luck with next year's book. We hope you enjoy the 1970 Ilium. Debbie Moschel 168 lane Osterwisch, Co-Editor As my years at NCH draw tc Close and the yearbook comes its finish, the memories of this, I senior year and those of my p years at NCH come to mind.
