COOK SU PERINiIiENDENT Students 01' the growth of civilization have often observed that, as vital issues evolve, a leader is iound to carry out the demands of this evoluticmi In the latter part 01' the nine- teenth century, education which up to that time was largely a prrx-ess of learning the three R's, reading, writing and arithmetic, he gall to expand into the idea of practical appli- cation for living. On an obscure farm in Illinois, a boy was born to fit into this new scheme 01' education and to become a leader in this new movement. At an early age, he began to prepare himself for leadership in the Held 01' education on a scale seldom if ever approached by the educators of his day. Alter receiving his Bachelork degree from the Uni- versity of Illinois, he continued his formal education by earning his Mastefs degree in the same institution. Feeling the need for further training, he entered the University of V'Visennsin and earned his Doctorate. With this background of training, he obtained a position as State School Inspector for the State of Colorado. From here he became El professor at the University of South Dakota and later taught at the University of Cincin- nati. Finding time available beyond his duties at the University of Cincinnati, where he taught School Administration, he accepted the position of Principal 01' the Dayton, Ken- tucky. High School. In the year 1943, he was elected Superintendent of the North College Hill Schools, where he carried on with the thoroughness and assiduity which marked his entire life. The countless lives which he has influenced both by his teaching and by his persistent striving to better himself and his community will always be an inspiration to those who have known him.
