TRACK Jim Woods Carl Lcpkc Ed Hodnik Last year, Coach Braden's team lost only one dual or triangular meet, and that was because he could not use the Hawks' full strength. Coach Braden also guided the team to a double victory, in the Lake County Meet against a highly touted Waukegan team, and in the Tri-County Conference Meet against a strong Palatine aggregation. Towards the end of the season, all the men who had competed in track that year were sad to hear that Coach Braden was leaving North Chicago. However, everyone was pleased to hear Coach Braden applaud Coach Babe'' Pierce, saying that he was the best track coach in the state. Coach Braden said this from experience Jerry Oglesby Freddy Scott as he was tutored by Coach Pierce several years ago. Coach Braden then tried and succeeded in bringing Coach Pierce to the North Chicago scene. Coach Braden's final words to the team before leaving, other than the usual, Well done,” were to tell the team how great a job they had done during the past year, and that in the next year or two, they could emerge state champions. Then left a truly great coach from North Chicago who will further and better his coaching career in the Far West, and who will be remembered for a long time in this high school.
