NCis administration is keep- ing their attention center not only on growth but on in- creasing the quality of the school while maintaining the colleges mission of preparing people to serve Christ. NC President Dr. Don Argue and Don Meyer agree on five main reasons for the colleges growth: CD the quality of the chapel services; C2i exit interviews With all seniors as to likes, dislikes, and improvements they could suggest for the college; C37 close interaction with the faculty by the students; Mi the balance of the practical and theological; C5i a healthy constituency of churches in the Assemblies of God movement. In 1930 NCBC opened with an enrollment of 27 stu- dents. On through the 1940is this had increased to around 270. It was not until 1961 that NC hit the 350 mark and by 1974 the college had stabilized at just over 450 students. By 1976 the college peaked at 578 and attendance broke 600 in 1978. This growth had continued to escalate. In 1980 NC added another 100 to that figure and in 1981 EC? EviiiiLR i XLL for growth chapels another 100. This years enrollment was up again and NC. had a student body of 936 in Fall, 1982. The Orfield Complex has proven indispensible for stu- dent housing in its first full year of NC ownership. Dr. Dale Berkey, Vice President for Development, says there is still room for physical expansion. The Men,s dorm is constructed to allow for an additional three stories. The CLC can be extended by two floors and the new gymnasi- um by an additional floor. For parking facilities, there is the option for parking behind Miller Hall or Lindquist Chapel. Without extensive change, the capacity of the college is estimated at between 1100 and 1200 students. Suggestions of having two chapel services, increasing the use of night courses, renovating and enlarging the cafeteria area, and many other ideas are all under consideration. What is in store for NCis future? Only the Lord knows for sure. But the other day Dr. Berkey and President Argue were seen looking towards the the IDS. Tower . . . Top: The new Orfield Complex. They saw many people who did not know what it was like to have some of the everyday items taken for granted in America. Things such as food, clothing and shelter were unheard of by some. For instance, while on a trip to sell some unneeded items, Carlo Griseta saw an unclothed begger. As a simple act of kindness, Carlo handed the begger a shirt and towel. The begger responded as if he had become one of the richest people in the world. These men returned from their trip with a stronger, deeper awareness of Godis love and power. Fall semester marked the inauger- ation of a brand new ministry at N.C.- The Evangelism Outreach Team. Team members preach, lead songs, present public prayer, work the alters for the services. Last year everyone who attended NC, particularly those who lived in the Menis Dorm, were deeply moved by the death of Tom Norris. Big T, as Tom was affectionately known, died suddenly of a heart attack on October 7, 1982. We know, as Tom did, that the moment his heart ceased to beat, his soul and spirit were alive in the presence of Jesus, whom Tom loved and served. itHaving worked with Tom Norris for a little over a year, I was always impressed with his faithfulness, sincerity and servants heart. Tom was a quiet individual and yet his presence was always sensed. tiI never found a chore that he was not willing to perform. We will greatly miss Tom Norris and the contribution he made both to the college and the Athletic Department. We have the confidence that God has called him home. Students are challenged by this Britisheris example to apply God,s teaching in every individual aspect of their life. He advises students to seek Godis will in every situation. His students know his philosophy of life: Be the man or woman God wants you to be! When considering the growth of ministries at NC, the Evangelism Outreach Team is recognized as the newest sign of growth. Brother Hall began the Team this year in order to train men and women who are specifically called to a full-time evangelistic ministry. He has admitted that the creation of the Team has been his greatest joy at NC since his arrival in 1978 from Great Britain. This Evangelism Team models the NC concept of Total Environment for Active Ministry. Students who have as- sisted in these evangelistic crusades received invaluable training. Brother Hallis passion for evangelism is manifested in these promising preachers. He began as an evangelist in 1960 while still a student at British Isles Nazarene College. Three years later he began taking other students into his crusades. This on-the-spot education now offered at NC is something of immense value. Leading the Team has caused this brother to cut back on his own ministry. He is currently holding his own crusades and seminars throughout the adjoining states. However, he has changed some local bookings from his own ministry to that of the Evangelism Team in order that his students may gain experience. His attitude toward bookings for himself is one of trust: I do not believe in advertising or asking pastors for meetings. The Lord Will arrange for our meetings. C O O k This past year Brother Hall twice appeared on Channel 38 TV. in Chicago. Although not seen in this area, reports of his gifted ministry have thrilled all at NC. After his presentations on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, the phone lines at the station were overwhelmed by callers testifying to having just received the Baptism. Working and studying with a man who is mightily used of God is a privilege. It is an honor to dedicate the 1983 Archive to a Christian like Reverend Ian Hall. Stafandex 159 Archive Editor Makes The Final Call Dear Reader, What you hold in your hands is a miracle! Due to the grace and power of our Lord, we overcame apparently insurmountable difficulties in bringing you this book. All glory and honor must belong to our Lord Jesus. A vote of thanks goes to our friends, who, although too busy to join the staff, helped out by writing copy, laying out pages, typing, and selling ads. Christis love shows through them isee 2Special Thanks7 under staffi; without our friends this task would have been much more difficult. Photographers are strange people to me. They spend hours staring through a barrel at people while shooting them. Then they close themselves up in a light-proof room filled with chemical vapors and develop their film. Kim Carter produced great photographs. However, her greatest contribution was as a friend who communicated Christian love and confidence even when things looked the most impossible. Reverend Will Hope is one of the most overparticular people I ever worked with, but he proved to be an intelli- gent, reasonable man for an English teacher. We are oppo- sites in many ways. Our relationship began out of necessi- ty and has blossomed into mutual respect. Without Will Hope this volume would have been harder to finish on time. A good administration knows when to leave a worker on his own, when to give advice, and when to take control. NC1s administration acted very wisely regarding the 1983 Archive. I thank them for their diligence and discretion. JSL Ralph K. McCombs Editor That,s it . See you next year!
