The 317 5. V 1981 ARCHIVE Presents: THE FIFTIETH YEAR Consecrate the fiftieth year . . . . it shall be a jubilee for you . . . it is a jubilee and is to be holy for you. Leviticus 25:10-12 N.I.V. North Central Bible College 910 Elliot Avenue South Minneapolis, Minnesota Randy Ackland ................ Editor Edward Denecke ...... Assistant Editor Kim Carter .............. Photo Editor William Brookman ............ Advisor The Fiftieth Year In Review It's hard to say in words what being on campus during the jubilee year was like. But even amidst the excitement there was always time for a pensive thought. Opportunities Abound On Campus Each of us find our niche in ministry that best corresponds to our capabilities and desires by our involvement with those of our college family. Challenges Abound On Campus The college challenged each of us to grow and mature spiritually, to expand our minds intellectually, and to commit ourselves to a future of service. In fifty years this has not changed. Academics 8: Activities We crackedvthe books and burned the night oil; we reviewed and researched and rememberd. We spent our days in reverent fear of mid-terms and finals, yet, we still had time for each other. Education 87; Entertainment Our minds were quickened and our limbs were exercised. Our thoughts were directed to God and our energies were channeled into constructive ends - well, most of the time! w n g i.gwwzyyfi$24 , Ongoing Growth Each individual who joins the North Central community avails himself to an opportunity in which he can experience a deepening of his spiritual commitment and understanding. The activities that surround the campus add a dimension to the learning process that can not be gauged but may easily be discerned. Christ-Centered Community The school community gave us a unique, demanding and privileged responsibility: edifying, encouraging and supporting those around us. This we did by giving ourselves completely to the ministry while here. Formation Of Leaders We strived at all times to be committed to Christ, growing in grace, maturing in faith and achieving the highest potential of spiritual power and insight. Learning became more than a process; it became necessary! Total Environment . . . The phrase Total Environment for Active Ministry has been heard by everyone who has spent even the shortest time at NCBC. That theme became most apparent as each student observed the provisions made for involvement through the wide spectrum of organizations and activities encompassing campus life. . . . For Active Ministry ' The maximum benefit able to be derived from the college experience is the development of a willingness to be involved in active ministry We have been prepared spiritually, socially, and educationally to meet the needs of a lost and dying world. umgztux Dedicated to Dr. John P. They found it to be a very rewarding experience as the students built up one another in the Lord. Student, faculty and staff gather in small group studies scheduled once a week for a time of praying for needs and sharing what God has done. They also met periodically during each semester at chapel time. Many students find this is a very special opportunity to build relationships and participate in a unique group. Rich Wilkerson A time of worship This years Spiritual Emphasis speaker was Rich Wilkerson from Southern California. God, through Rich, revitalized our vision as he ministered to us in refreshing services. Throughout the week the main theme was being radical for God, taking a stand against the forces of the enemy. As Rich spoke, we realized twith a note of urgencyi the peril our country is in and we realized the duty we have to God to help others. The week was topped off with Mainstream , a series of teaching sessions dealing with youth ministry. For the past fifty years our college has successfully trained thousands of men and women for the work of Christ. The goals of the college were brought to view by themes presented by the 50th week speakers, of whom four were graduates and one a former president of NCBC. The hand of God, upholding and blessing it through thick and thin, is certainly the reason for this college being what it is today. The founder, F. J. Where does God want me to go? What job should I take? are questions a lot of dedicated Christian graduates will be agonizing over about now. Interestingly the Bible dwells little on such questions. When the will of God is discussed, it talks rather of what you should pg. So our challenge, and prayer, for the Class of 80: BE the person God wills 2 you to be. The rest will follow. The seal represents the basic premise on which the school was founded. On the seal: The Lamp of Knowledge represents enlightenment and education. The Bible represents the inspired Word of God. The Cross represents the challenge of preaching the message. The Dove represents the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Laurel Wreath represents never ending advancement to new achievements. From the moment of conception within the heart of Dr. F. J. Lindquist to the present days of Dr. E. M. Clark and Dr. Don Argue the seal represents the goals of the Administration, Faculty and Staff. Looking back over the fifty years one can truly see the results of this school in the form of graduates, former students, former administrators, former faculty and former staff. Their lives having been changed through the working of the Holy Spirit, challenged to preach the living Word of God, and reinforced with the educational enlightenment of North Centrals educational processes. The purpose of this Archive has been to represent this year in picture and word. This book is to provide a living memory for those who were a part of North Central Bible College 1981. Here is another graduating class, one, that is not much different than those which preceded it in that they have been trained by those with the goal of winning men and women for Christ, which has been the one underlying goal that has been present from 1930 to present. As Editor and as tradition, I would like to thank first of all our photographers, Joe Braga and Dan Hennessy. Without this talented help the Archive would not be as fine and complete as it is. To our writers and layout people, Philip Ackland and Linda Dailey, thank you for a job well done and for your faithfulness. Many thanks to Marilyn Denecke for research and correspondence. Connie Ackland, thanks for keeping the books straight and in the black. Kim Carter, thanks. As Photo Editor your darkroom work has been great, the photographs were great, and the reassuring smile when things looked darkest was a comfort. Edward Denecke, thanks for those many late hours you spent in supervising the layout and actually putting the book together. As Assistant Editor, your ideas and your encouragement make me greatly indebted to you. Thank you for fulfilling this important part. Connie, thanks for being a kind and understanding wife. Your support was unmeasurable. In closing, thanks to all the student body of North Central for your faithfulness to God in being part of North Central Bible College. It has been the prayers of this staff that this book will become a living remembrance of not only the school year, but also the spirit which is here. May that Spirit which has gone on for fifty years go with you. God Bless.
