Today we, the class of 1957, look and see the out-stretched hands of those who are .hungering and thirsting. Knowing that their future lies in our hands, we go forth bearing the Gospel, that they might be fed. Gaga dug fife Take my life, and let it be Consecrated, Lord to Thee: Take my hands, and let them move At the impulse of Thy love. Take my feet, and let them be Swift and beautiful for Thee: Take my voice, and let me sing Always only for my King. Take my lips, and let them be F illed with messages for Thee: Take my silver and my old, Not a mite would I with old. Today we stand on life,s broad way Before our hands the future lies, Ten thousand voices from the regions beyond are crying, ttCome save us lest we should die? Turn not awa the c of those that are lost. Is it not so, the worl is in His hands As once it was when E pt,s mi hty host Rode to the sea and vanis ed in t e sands? With your hands in His Co forward, teaching precious truths He doth impart, Reaching the hidden depths of every heart. Stretch out a loving hand to wrestlers with the troubled sea- Lead the wandtring and the wavering feet. F eed the hungfing ones with manna sweet. IONE E. The tedious hours of careful planning and the prayers that have ascended to God in our behalf, we will never know, because you have hidden them so Well behind a pleasant smile. Upon entering the school, the student is asked to choose one of the twelve missionary prayer bands in which to participate. These groups are considered prayerfull , and Cod,s guidance is desired in each choice. The prayer bands are directed Ky the electe officers of the groups. A variety of services are held as God blesses the ministry of the students. Many of those workin on the mission fields have had experiences that show them the true worth 0 the missionary burden placed upon the students of North Central Bible Institute. North Central Bible Institute has gained the top position in total and per capita givin of all the Assemblies of God Bible institutes and colleges. This is the resu t of the Holy Spirit impressing upon the students the intense needs of the mission fields. With a group of some seventy-five missionaries labouring in the whitened harvest field, of a truth we can say that the sun never sets on the ministry of North Central Bible Institute. t 16 ': Africa GnanM The Lord said unto me - thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and, whatsoever I command thee thou shall speak? ttThat which has not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider? it China and Japan tChinesey idols t0 Ye turned to God from ,, and true God. 1V1ng . serve the 1 ' Europe GermaM Ye shall be witnesses unto me in Jerusalem,, Home Missions 20 There is no eace, saith my God, to the wicked, India WindusthM 2'I REV AND MRS MONROE GRAMS REV. LUKE 24:39 In the Bible the hand is a symbol of our actions, and the foot is a symbol of our walk. ' The hands of Jesus are fascinating to study. They are a manic hands: he took 0n himself humanity and the form of man. They are pure hands, else he would be challenged as in Psalm 24, TWho shall ascend into the hill of the Lord or stand in the Holy Place? They are invitin hands that say come. The sinful may come for cleansing, the sick may come or healing, the children may come for blessing, the blind may come or sight. ' They are wounded hands. The doubter like Thomas may come and see them, touch them; Israel at last shall see them and recognize their Messiah: he has them eternally in Glory as memorials of Calva . Before he left his disciples, tLuke 245m he lifte these hands in ben- ediction and blessing; then, parting from them, ascended to Glory. Now they are priestly hands raised in prayer as high priest and also as advocate for us. Shall we make them bleed again with our sin, or shall we recognize Him when he returns by the Tprint of the nails in His hands? 34 Was mainlant IVAN O. For the organ and piano it was a sad occasion for they were being replaced by a younger generation. Big fat tears trickled down the cheeks of the instruments as they realized that their duties in the chapel were no longer needed. iiWell, I guess this is it? the organ sighed, as he thought of the many memorable occasions that had taken place during his years of service. Many Classes had gathered in the chapel for services, but to him the most remark- able class of all was the class of ii57ll, IThe first I can remember of this class was when a few of the prospective members congregated here for a music contesf, sniffed the piano. iiYesf, said the organ, II can even recall who won the scholarships. Now let me see -- I believe it was Jeanette Tosten who was awarded a yeafs tuition; Joanne Sturm, Bethany Beberg and Roger Dissmore received a semestefs tuition. This was the first contest to take place here. On the first day of school, the class assembled here for its initial chapel service. There were 155 in number- the largest class in five years. Remembering their schedule, rushing to classes on time, and getting acquainted with all the other students seemed to occupy most of the time during the first few weeks of school. As they attended each chapel hour, it became evident that their purpose in coming to school was to prepare themselves for service in the Masters harvest field. IYesf, inter- rupted the piano, iiseemed that the spiritual tide of the freshman year was on a high level and was climaxed by a revival that came in the fall of that year. If I remember correctly, classes were disbanded for a full week as the students sought the Lord for his anointing and blessings upon their lives. The influence of this revival lasted throughout the year, making it a very success- ful term? iiAndf, said the organ as he probed his memory, Iclass elections resulted in a landslide vote for Dick Balken as President? Other officers were Marvin Ivie, Vice President; Shirley Snyder, Secretary; and Faye Harrison, Treasurer. Joye Norwood, Pat Schenck, Joanne Carlblom, Dean Eastman, John Burke, and Homer Giles formed a team to represent the Freshman Class on the Student Council. I heard wind of welcome parties given by Fremont Taber- nacle and the Minneapolis Gospel Tabernacle, which added spice and variety to the social life of the class. There were also a school party and a Big-lil, Sister party held in honor of the freshman girls. Other social events were basketball games and an open house held a Halloween? iiIt was a pleasant surprise to me? said the piano, iiwhen Dean Eastman brought back his bride after Christmas vacation? The organ seemed to feel that the TV. program presented by N.C.B.I. was one of the important events of the year. This broadcast was aided by several members of this outstanding class. While the birds were singing outside, the organ and piano were groan- ing within, for the lovely summer had arrived. 56 These summer months seemed endless t0 the piano and organ as they waited expectantly for the return of the Class of 157. Finally the new term arrived. The halls echoed with the excitement and chattering as the students made their way to the chapel for the first assembly of the new year. There were many faces missing, but there were also a number of trans- fer students who joined the ranks. The class was now only 118 in number. The capable leaders of this year were Marvin Ivie, President; Dick Balken, Vice President; Shirley Snyder, Secretary; and Norman Weing, Treas- urer. Serving on the Student Council were Marlene Antonson, Joanne Carlblom, Joye Norwood, Dean Eastman, Bill Schmidt and Corwin Lowe. Again wedding bells rang during Christmas vacation. Our class secre- tary changed her name to Mrs. Robert Hanson. The spring school picnic was held at Como Park. Games, food and a wonderful time were enjoyed by all. The theme for the Missionary Convention, an annual event, was iiNo Man Careth For My Soul? This convention proved to be a spiritual help to everyone, and all received a blessing from the Lord. The Junior class entertained the class of 1956 at the Junior-Senior Banquet at the Leamington Hotel. A good musical program was provided and the speaker, Rev. T. E. Gannon, presented a challenging message. A sigh of satisfaction welled up within the organ and piano as they dis- cussed these incidents. Another year saw the students once again gathered in the sacred halls of N.C.B.I. This time the class was only 80 in number. They finally reached the third year and were looking forward to taking their places in the L0sz army. They chose for their motto iiWarriors of the Gospel? Marvin Ivie and Dick Balken were re-elected to serve as President and Vice President respectively. Joanne Carlblom was given the honor of being Secretary, and Marie Dissmore was elected Treasurer. Members of the Senior Class elected to serve on the Student Council were Jeanette Tosten, Joanne Sturm, Carla Bunn, Roger Dissmore, William Johnson and Roy Phillips. Matrimonial vows were taken by Marie Phillipson and Roger Dissmore during Christmas vacation. The basketball games were quite exciting this year. The Nimrods, cham- pions last year, attained the same goal as before. This team was composed largely of members of the class of ,57. Their years at North Central Will come to an end and be climaxed by a great commencement program. Sixty-nine seniors will receive diplomas on May 28, 1957. As warriors of the Gospel, they will go forth to proclaim the glad Gospel to a hungry and needy world. These thoughts were interrupted by a loud noise in the vestibule 0f the chapel. iiWhafs that? exclaimed the organ. iiLooks to me like the new organ, and piano have arrived? replied the piano, iiand now it is time for us to leave? iiWellf consoled the organ, Tat least we have had the privilege of leaving with the class of ,57 - a class which will in my thinking never be equalled? 57 RICHARD BALKEN Minheapolis, Minnesota Theology Muior Ye have not chosen be, but I have chosen you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit. To praise the Lord with gladness is not a work of man; it is rather a joyful suffering and the work of God alone. It cannot be taught in words, but must be learned by one,s own experience, even as David says in Psalm 34 - Oi taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusteth in Him? He puts tasting before seeing because this sweetness cannot be known unless it is exper- ienced and felt for oneself; and no one can attain to such experience unless he trusts in God with his whole heart. Then David goes on to say in Psalm 63 - iiI will lift up my hands in thy namef meaning, after experiencing such blessings from God, that he can lift up Holy Hands unto God in praise and worship. May our hearts ever be filled with a spirit of true worship and our hands lifted in Holy adoration unto God. 94 0w: Oaztoz REV. T. J. JONES THE OHMANS REV- C- A- BATES THE MARKERS REV. H. Their activities are as varied as Heinz,s 57 varieties, ranging from pastoring churches to ushering people to their seats. The emphasis is placed upon evangelism in the T uesday Chapel services, which help students keep soul- winning foremost in their thinking when going to their respective assignments. Christian Service activities have not only provided valuable experience, but they have been avenues through which many precious souls have been led to find salvation through acceptance of the Lord Jesus Christ. LARSEN Music Instructor gagool, of didactic The Music Education Course is a four year program preparing the student for public school teaching or as a minister of music in local churches. The affiliations with MacPhail School of Music and Minneapolis Music College enable our students to obtain Bachelor of Music Degree by complet- ing their fourth year of study at either advanced college. It is notable also that all degree graduates are today employed in teaching positions in various sections of the country. In any realm of education, application is as essential as learning. Calls for musical groups are always reaching the school, making possible frequent ap- plications. Many of our churches are constantly desiring music directors and youth pastors, making available constant avenues of service in the field of music. Another course available in the Music Department is that of Applied Music. This is a preparatory study for the teaching of private lessons. Several groups frequent their schedules with weekend trips and extended tours. The Evangelaires completed a very profitable tour of the eastern states this year while the Choralettes made several appearances in the midwest. The Male Chorus and various small ensembles are used extensively. Our fine staff of twelve music instructors is being greatly used of God in training young people to spread the gospel through the great ministry of music. REV. ORILI. KRANS MRSq lAWRENCE B. North Central Bible Institute Cafeteria MISSIONARY? ....May56? Interested in foreign missions? Oh, you're iust preparing, but it could be. Your interested in foreign missions auto- matically creates a need for financial protection for your family. You are quite aware after the episode in Ecuador that you are planning to put the wel- fare of your family at a high risk. For- eign mission boards and societies under- stand this and allow a definite number of dollars to each missionary for the purchase of life insurance and retire- ment income. Did you know that no company will issue Waiver of Premium Disability to a missionary or a mission- ary candidate? Did you know that a missionary going to or inuMexico, Al- giers or Belgian Congo pays from $15 to $25 per $1,000 extra premium for his life insurance? Dollars that should be going to the purchase of additional life insurance or being set aside for retirement must be paid into these extra premiums. This can be eliminated if you act soon enough. Next year may be too late. For further information I urge you to call alumni, Robert L. Of a truth we can say: iiThe Lord hath done great things; whereof we are glad? Psa. 126:3. It has been the constant aim of the editor to display this year as an integral part of Gods purpose for our school, by cor- relating the words of Faculty members, faces of the students, and activities of the organizations. Being honored with his position, the editor has had the op- portunity of making acquaintance With many personalities who have an association With North Central Bible School in various ways. Through this opportunity it has been discovered, and all agree, that although North Central has always had a perpetual betterment, the year 1956-57 has been a very outstanding and remarkable year. I could not feel the annual complete Without formally thank- ing all who contributed their time and efforts to make the ii57ii annual a realization. My warmest thanks are extended to the Staff for their indis- pensable service and support. SINCERELY, DALE EDWARDS 168 W Mgqug, ' JH ' ; Wynn; ;, h H k W gm?! .th EWAW ?.rm .,, E;
