With A.S.B. president Chris Anderson heading the activities, the A.S.B. got off to an unusually quick start. Kicking off the year was a free concert by Blind Willie during 5th and 6th for A.S.B. card holders. Throughout the year numerous special events were planned. The A.S.B. sponsored a bike rally on a rainy September which was attended by a few hardy riders. To maintain interest in the levy issue, a pep rally was held during both lunches. Charlie Brown, KJRB disc jockey and members of the school board were present as guests Winter Carnival was packed full of events topped off by a fund raising drive for Senior Gary Schilling, a car accident victim and Junior Gary Ashley, who has been suffering from a serious illness. Fall A.S.B. Officers are: Sue Sibulsky. Secretary; Chris Anderson. President; Dennis Day. Vice President; Debbie Lande. Treasurer; and Steve Boswell. Fifth Executive Above: KJRB disc jockey. Charlie Brown, shows support for the Special School Levy by attending the A S B sponsored Levy Rally Even Better - A.S.B. Goal Of Spring Officers The Spring officers started the new semester with the aim of having an even better A.S.B. than the very successful fall semester Their first event was ski nig ht. A bus to Snowblaze was rented and a discount was acquired for lift tickets. Those who went had a very good, though cold. time. Coming up in March was the vote on the levy, and A.S.B did all it could to show its support Heavy on the Levy , a benefit dance with all proceeds going to the levy fund was held March 2, and March 6 was the date of Showtime. a program performed for adults from voting districts in the N.C. area. The program, which included the Stage Band and Tee-Pee Lighters was designed to show the voters that N.C. students are really involved in their school and that they care a lot about the quality of education they receive. Also in March were Co-Rec nights. Both gyms were opened to the students and such sports as basketball, volleyball, swimming, and weightlifting were available A special showing of the movie Little Big Man was shown to A.S.B. card holders, and a spring mixer for the whole student body was held April 27. My Heart Belongs to Daddy, this year ' s Dad-Daughter Dance was enjoyed by many as was the Sadie, Dogpatch County Fair. To help celebrate Christmas the officers provided Santas for pictures during lunches, and opened the Christmas Boutique which was stocked with gift ideas made by students and clubs. To celebrate Valentine ' s Day the officers sponsored a Guess How Many Hearts Are In The Jar? contest. A guess cost a penny and anyone could vote as many times as he wished. As March grew near, work was started on Cotton Week; The week consisted of such activities as a treasure hunt, a powder-puff football game, a luncheon for all N.C. girls, and the Cottom Day Dance as the climax. The Girls ' League Style Show, held April 17, was a little different this year The girls modeled clothes supplied by the Bon Marche instead of those they had made themselves. Homemade clothes did get a showing, however, as a small style show was added to the Mother- Daughter Tea held in May. At debates and in area and state wide tournaments such events as expository, oral interpretation, impromptu, and oratory were also entered. Though much hard work and research goes into each debate, the benefits are more than educational. Awareness of world affairs, and good speaking ability are two big rewards but the best reward is friendship.
