Owen Meredith - ,:;|f lis; ■■ ■ rivao These words aptly describe the affec- tion which everyone feels toward Mrs. Alice Gillespie to whom we dedicate this Tamarack. She has announced her retirement after faithfully serving this school since 1935. After her early years and schooling in Weiser, Idaho, she came to Spokane with Mr. Gillespie. Her compensation for the first assignment in the North Central cafeteria was reportedly twenty five cents an hour as a food assistant. She became head of the cafeteria in Sep- tember, 1942. Her daughter, Mrs. Dean Johnson, attended North Central and kept an anxious eye on her mother! After retirement we may assume she will spend some time in Billings, Montana, visiting Mr. and Mrs. Johnson and her two grandaugh- ters. Also on her list of activities will be caring for her mother, who lives with her, traveling, and some com- munity service Mr. Rodkey, Principal, had the following remarks to say about Mrs. Gillespie: I doubt that any person who has ever worked at North Central was known by more students or was held in higher esteem. Some of her basic characteristics include sincerity, dedication, loyalty, friendliness, and charm. She has truly been successful. What greater praise can be said of a human being? All of us at North Central, past and present, thank you and wish you well, Mrs. Gillespie.
