Students Throughout Year After many years of preparation for college, students have to complete various types of tests which Lorraine McNew, col- lege counselor, organizes. She had the task of gathering information from many col- leges and universities and counseling seniors who are planning for further education. Kenneth Hagen, registrar, handles all of the IBM schedule cards for the 1,885 students at North Central. He also coun- sels students about their classes and makes all necessary changes. Lillian Barnes and Stella Mills keep the library up-to-date with a large variety of magazines, books and reference materials. There is also a wide variety of vocational material available. With a complete library, correct sched- uling and counseling aid for the students ' use, it is possible to get full value from the education offered. These behind the scenes jobs help the school run more smoothly and are a great help to the stu- dents who need aid in their preparing for adulthood. Cataloguing new books for student use are librarians, Lillian Barnes Lorraine McNew, college advisor, and Kenneth Hagen, registrar, discuss the ever-changing re- quirements for college entrance.

Counselors And Librarians Help Reading the directive for the day are Miss Patricia McKeirnan and Mr. Verne Tucker. Mrs. Margaret Gillingham assists as Denise Garrity reads and Jean- nine Fischer uses the braille typewriter. Student counseling is among the most difficult duties undertaken at North Central. Mrs. Patricia Butterfield and Mr. Kenneth Mhyre, with the aid of Miss Patricia Mc- Kiernan and Mr. Vem Tucker, help our students with academic and emotional problems which may arise. New to the school this year is Mrs. Margaret Gilling- ham, who assists the blind students attending North Cen- tral. It is her duty to transcribe all texts and any other necessary materials into braille. She also goes into the class- room to help her students in any classes requiring labora- tory work. She spent much time acquainting the students with the halls before the actual opening of the school term. Looking over the busy schedule of events for the school year are Mr. Kenneth Mhyre and Mrs. Patricia Butterfield, student counselors.

So North Central requires six semesters of English. In these courses language, composition and literature are studied. Eight semesters are a must for those who wish to go on to college, with special emphasis on vocabulary, themes, and more advanced literary study. For the non-college bound senior there are courses which emphasize practical English skills and reading for enjoyment. Speech and drama offer both pleasure and practical training while journalism, a one-semester subject, provides the background for practical application of English skills on the school newspaper or yearbook.
