PTA and School Work Together Efforts Made to Interest Parents in School Affa irs. North Central ' s Parent-Teacher Association worked closely with the school ' s administration through the school year. Their purpose was to bring the home and school closer, so students could receive the benefits of increased understanding between the two factions, and therefore gain more from their education. Officers were elected and held their positions through the entire year. They supervised the two meetings held each month, programmed speakers and planned extracurricular activities. Statistics have shown that close parent-school administra- tion ties have produced a better quality, more interested student that is truly concerned with the affairs of his com- munity. These community-minded individuals are the initiating force of democratic processes: these processes are responsible for the maintenance of America ' s high standards of education and government that make us a truly superior people and give us the full benefits of our society. School Board Establishes Policies Membe rs Direct Activities of Schools Spokane ' s District 81 School Board continued to be the policy-making force throughout the school year. They held meetings regularly with principals and administrators and were responsible for the efficient operation of Spokane ' s edu- cational system. The board members served through the year without any reward other than the satisfaction they received from knowing how they aided the learning processes of Spokane ' s young- sters and helped their prospects for better, more fulfilling lives. Through the realization that education is the key to suc- cess in our competitive society, the board has striven to maintain fine schools in which students have opportunities in proportion to their individual desires to achieve. Legislation for the school ' s benefit was put into effect with the hope that our entire system cotdd give a higher degree of education at all levels. President of the District 81 School Board for 1964-65 is Oscar C. Santschi.

School Administrators Walter Anker, New Vice-Principal The administration ai North Central, the principal, vice- principal, and the girls ' and boys ' deans are directly respon- sible tor the efficient management of all school affairs. Most policy interpretation is handled by the princ ipal. John P. Rodkey. Our vice-principal, Walter Anker, was new to N.C. this year, but he soon became a familiar figure about the school as he handled the problems concerning student man- agement and control. The girls ' and boys ' deans. Patricia Butterfield and Ren neth .Mhyre. were active and appreciated in their capac ities as student counselors. Many students are familiar with the concern and sympathy these teachers extend in the course of duty. North Central has a dedicated administrative staff, which devoted many hours to the betterment and understanding of its students. They know that students work much better in an atmosphere of general good feeling than under the burden of unsolved personal problems.
