Phyllis Todd and Jean Custer demonstrate techniques used in leather tooling in a crafts class. Students of the fine arts department explore specialized phases such as fashion design and oil painting after learning the basic principles of design and colors. In the foreign langugage department students learn about a people through their language. Essential to this modern civilization is a knowledge of other lands. The music department attempts to give students an understanding and appre- ciation of all types of music. This understanding provides an enduring basis of enjoyment and pleasure through a broader understanding of modern culture. Paying close attention as they practice in typing I are Steve Potter, Betty Sears and Bonnie Somerville. Offering two years each in typing, shorthand and bookkeeping and one year of office practice, the business education department prepares graduates for office positions. Valuable personal-use information may also be obtained. For vocational use, the student should plan a schedule to include four semes- ters in either bookkeeping or shorthand. Enrolling in these subjects during the last semesters of school will mean that the skills will be usable when the student enters the business World. Clothing and foods are first presented through elementary courses for freshmen and sopho- mores. With this firm basis, students are able to expand their talents in sewing construction and food preparation. Additional classes for interested girls are offered in social relations, hone furishings, child development and tailoring. A knack for cooking and an interest in foods brings boys into the unique chef class for juniors and seniors. Mrs. Dunphy catching Dick Voss reading a magazine in study hall amuses the other students. ,
