The English courses I-VI pro- vide instruction in techniques of reading and interpretation, in fundamentals of correct speech and written composition, and hope to instill in each student an ap- preciation of his American literary heritage. Mrs. Stoner, Mrs. Daves and Mrs. Jennings hard at work in the office as Mrs. Baumgartner fills out an early dismissal for Annie Blossom. A complete academic and activity record of every North Central student is kept by the office staff. Job applicants and aspiring college students turn to the office Workers for grade transcripts and recommendations for prospective employers and for colleges. Other duties of the secretaries and book- keepers include the recording of attendance, the issuing of temporary dismissals, the greeting of all guests, and the preparing of the daily homeroom bulletin to inform stu- dents of all school activities. Even with these many duties, the secretaries are always ready to help students with problems. Miss Damon and Mr. Bradford consult a permanent record folder before giving advice to a student. I5

Using the Library card catalogue to find information for their term papers are seniors Bricker Cortner, De'edy Geri, and Madeline Riches. The English courses have been expanded to include every phase of language usage. Journalism offers the talented student the opportunity to express himself through Weekly publications and the yearbook. VVork in drama classes gives the student a study of the history, background and terminology of the theater as well as an opportunity to participate in acting or in producing one-act and longer plays.
