of trckets the comedy was presented a second nrght February 22 The play whrch was coach d by Mrss Marguerrte Motre was a rollrckrng comedy deprctrng the love affarrs of the 35 year old artrst Robrn Worthrngton rn the person f Wayne Hall Maggre Cottrell Vrrgrnra Ellrsf as the l8year old lover of Robrn nearly proved that drgnrtary s undorng and had rt not been for hrs frnal apprecratron of hrs secretary Mrss Heseltrne alras Gene xreve Moore and hrs engagement to her he MISS MARGUERITE MOTIE mrght have been hooked up to a person far too young and vrvacrous for hrs own per sonalrty The one real drsapporntment of the play came rn the farlure of the vamprre Lourse Parker who rs known rn school crrcles as Beatrrce Rolfe to make an rmpressron on the drgnrfled author ln the role of a young marrred couple Ruth Hubbell and Clrfford Saffle were at therr best and both appeared very natur ally srlly over 8 months old Mary Grace Class Will ten whrle we are yet of sound and drspos rng mrnd to DEFEAT OF LEWIS AND CLARK OIN TURKEY DAY When the Turkey day game was t d t found the fans betting evtn money It was a good day but the ground was too slippery for open field work The for ing was through line plunge splltbxcks and a drop kick It was a great battle from start to finish dxscloslng an array of op play and line bucks by North Central wmle Lewis and Clark had to rely entirely upon line plunges for her lone touchdown It was a slrppery held and open play w har to put across Lewis and Qlark ad us outweighed I0 to IZ pounds to the man Open play was tried by North Central but the field slowed up the team and line buck were resorted to This style of play prmv d satxsfactor and the ball was carried to the ouse Lewls and Clark hclcl yn the third down It was on the extreme right of the field Rouse dropped back and called oi himself for a drop kick lr was a success the ball going squarely between the poss for the first three points of the game Lewls and Clark then marched the ball down the Field for a touchdown The score at the end of the first quarter was I. I and Clark 7 North Central 3 North Central marched the ball to Le vis and Clark s 20 yard line It was the fourth down A fake place kick was called T ball was passed to Rouse Hall made a fak kick Rouse made a forward pass to Lower behind the goal line Rouse kicked goal the score at the end of the half was North Central I0 Lewis and Clark 7 'Ihe second half opened with an exchange of punts Low recovered a punt on Lewis and Clarks 5yard lme On lme bucks Hall and Daniel took the ball to the one yard mark Woodrow was sent across for the tochdown on a cross buck Rouse failed to kick goal Score North Central I6 Lewis and Clark 7 'Ihe quarter ended without further scoring North Central recovered the ball 'again in this quarter on a fumble On two lon gains by Hall and one each by Woodrov and Daniel the ball was brought witmm striking distance Daniel was sent over for the last touchdown of the game Rou kicked goal Score at end of game North Central 23 Lewis and Clark 7 ALL STAR TEAM FOOTBALL When George Varnell picked his mythical all star city team he gave places to nine North Central men and two positions to Lewis and Clark Although there was but the on game because of the Hu Mr Varnell had no trouble in making his selections Wher North Central lacked in weight they made ur m experience and speed The Red and THE NORTH CENTRAL NEWS Kc 5 Black backfield was left intact for it wou cl have broken up a fast and smooth worlun set of backs to separate them Both Nor h Central ends were given regular berths on their ability to cover punts and to soear passes Todd Rouse was Woodrow N C h NORTH CENTRAL WINS BASKET BALL SERIES In in exciting series North Central de fexted Lewis and Clark in the basket ball ntest for th ity high school champ1on games to decide First Game The first game was played in the Red and Black gymnasium It was hard fought throughout but North Central Finished with a nme point lead Second Game When the teams tangled the next tlme it was in the Lewis and Clark gym Like the first this was a real battle but Lewis and Clark had somewhat the superior team work and defeated us by a margin of seven points Third Came In our own gym the enemy defeated u by a margin of two points making the series 2 to I in favor of Lewis and Clark It was a speedy exhibition Fourth Game Between these two games our team had journeyed to Walla Walla where they had been defeated ln two rough games When they met Lewis and Clark ln the South Side gym they outplayed them throughout The game ended with North Central six points the better team The games now stood two each Fifth Game Before a packed house the better team won lt was in our camp and the whole team worked like a clock The final count was 22 I6 giving North Central the prlv nlege of going to Pullman for the basket ball tournament GIRLS BASKET BALL The gurls hawe organized and have taken great interest in the girls game of basket ball Class teams are organized and a r g ulai schedule is being played off Six play e are used on each tearr and rules differ ing considerably from the boys game are followed 'Ihe games have been close and enthusiasm has run hugh THE TRACK OUTLOOK FOR 19 The outlook for a good track season un der the supervision of Coach W Taylor xs very bright Although the coach is quite pessimistic ln his predictions the sure point winners give us some reason for looking for ward to a successful year in the clnder sport Wallace Burch star sprinter and high point man of last year both at Pullman and at the Stadium is the track captain Captain Burch like Mr Taylor is somewhat doubt ful of the years possibilities In the dashes there will be two responsible rren in Capt Burch and Ray Lower Burch took firsts last year and Lower followed across the tape In the pole vault and jumps there Strickler who does well with the pole while mg bar at a reasonable height The hurdles are taken care of by Saffle McDonald Lxndlahr and Stelnke The weight men are Irvine and Hxllxker Irvine heaves the shot and Hilliker hurls the discus In the distance runs there will be Prat Siripklns Williams and McDonald Hnlllker Strxckler and Andrus hurl the jaxelln Wrth the outside material that will come in there should be a great team ln the hell against North Centrals rnals TENNIS The tennis prospects are not too bright although there are several good prospects besides one letter man The nucleus of the at gregation which will be coached by L -X Borah will be Alex Bremner Bremner wil be a thxrd year man Alden McMaster y Williams and possibly some of the under class men will show up on the courts FOOTBALL 1919 'Ihe prospects for another gooi te'nn next year appear bright Although nearly the entire backfield will be lost by gradua tion there is good maternal ready to step in to the vacant places The same is true m the case of line positions which vt u b vacated The most promnsmg backfielcl rren are to be found Tubby Mclwasters Ernest Henry Peck and Cecil Chapman With these men and Woodrow a letter man a fast heady bunch of backs should be de veloped Ed Allen or Myron Hanley nc uld show form for Lows end and Lester Abey should be able to Gll Irvine s
