The first game was played in the Red and Black gymnasium It was hard fought throughout but North Central Finished with a nme point lead Second Game When the teams tangled the next tlme it was in the Lewis and Clark gym Like the first this was a real battle but Lewis and Clark had somewhat the superior team work and defeated us by a margin of seven points Third Came In our own gym the enemy defeated u by a margin of two points making the series 2 to I in favor of Lewis and Clark It was a speedy exhibition Fourth Game Between these two games our team had journeyed to Walla Walla where they had been defeated ln two rough games When they met Lewis and Clark ln the South Side gym they outplayed them throughout The game ended with North Central six points the better team The games now stood two each Fifth Game Before a packed house the better team won lt was in our camp and the whole team worked like a clock The final count was 22 I6 giving North Central the prlv nlege of going to Pullman for the basket ball tournament GIRLS BASKET BALL The gurls hawe organized and have taken great interest in the girls game of basket ball Class teams are organized and a r g ulai schedule is being played off Six play e are used on each tearr and rules differ ing considerably from the boys game are followed 'Ihe games have been close and enthusiasm has run hugh THE TRACK OUTLOOK FOR 19 The outlook for a good track season un der the supervision of Coach W Taylor xs very bright Although the coach is quite pessimistic ln his predictions the sure point winners give us some reason for looking for ward to a successful year in the clnder sport Wallace Burch star sprinter and high point man of last year both at Pullman and at the Stadium is the track captain Captain Burch like Mr Taylor is somewhat doubt ful of the years possibilities In the dashes there will be two responsible rren in Capt Burch and Ray Lower Burch took firsts last year and Lower followed across the tape In the pole vault and jumps there Strickler who does well with the pole while mg bar at a reasonable height The hurdles are taken care of by Saffle McDonald Lxndlahr and Stelnke The weight men are Irvine I I -----------------n-- . .. . .. - - - . - . . .... ..-..--- THE NORTH CENTRAL NEWS Assoczafed Siudenis Aciwzizes The semester just closing has been an un usual one for both the Gurls League and the Boys Federation The organuzatuons were only starting a busy semesters work vhen the schools closed last fall but sunce the sec ond openung of school two months ago they have more than made up for the time lost because of the flu One of the most important things done by the two organuzatuons was the perfectuuug of a new plan of student government for the library Two months use have proved ut entirely satisfactory THE GIRLS LEAGUE The Gurls League has had a particularly satisfactory semester headed by Genevleve Moore president and Luculle Hone vuce president Muldred Frans as treasurer has handled over 5930 for the league Vera Marshal was secretary untul her resugnatuon two weeks ago to accept a posutuon The league has held two partues one at the begunnung of the semester for all the gurls ol the school and another last week un honor of the gurls of the graduatung class The patruotuc edutuon of the News was wrut ten by gurls of the league During the semester just closing three promunent speak ers were obtained to address the gurls The league consists of four departments the Entertainment Socual Servuce Personal Effucuency and Patrlotuc udgung from the department reports which were submitted last week to Miss Gibson the semester has been an actuve one for the varuous depart ments well for the league a a whole The Personal Efficiency department head ed by Bertha Keller conducted the gurls basket ball series which ended recently MISS ,IESSIE GIBSON These gurls had charge of the emergency room and helped un the formation of the Girls League branch established at the Bry ant school Plans are now being made for gurls indoor baseball serues for next semester To the Patruotuc department headed by Beryl Wulluams fell the task of organizing the gurls of the school for the Fourth Liberty Loan Parade Clothing for the Belgum relxef was collected under the supervision of thus department 5200 pounds were ohtauned which was much more than North Central s quota Nearly 300 articles were collected L C BRADFORD durung the druve for lunen be sent t French hospitals The gurls of the Patruotuc department made 250 handkerchuefs for Red Cross hospital use Ruth Hubbell headed the Social Service department which was organized unto com muttees The scholarship committee spent much time un glVlng personal assustance to nearly two dozen gurls who were behind un The absent and suck gurls committee corresponded wuth those who were ull and supplied them wuth the news The Phulanthropuc committee during the last flu ban took charge of five famulues the members of which were all attacked by unfluenza The new gurls and freshmen gurls committees worked wuth the new comers getting them acquainted wuth the older gurls and doing everything possible to put them at theur ease un theur new surround ings The work of the Social Service depart ment us plaunly for older gurls and on thus account only unuor and Senuor gurls are members The Entertainment department wuth Carui Sharp at the head had charge of all pro grams guven un connection wuth the league such as the one at the Red Cross entertaun ment and those guven at the two Gurls of thus department were sent recently to the varuous grade school to tell the stu dents there about the league THE BOYS FEDERATION The Boys Federation too has had an eventful semester Urugunatung only last fall the federatuon was handicapped by havung not only the work but also the process of orgamzung broken unto by the influenza bans The unutual undertaking of the federation was the boys part of the unuor Red Cross druve The National Service department headed by Wulluam Godefroy conducted a campaign for members of the boys working reserve Now all the boys un school who untend to work on farms next summer are members of thus reserve parties Xt the beginning of next semester t planned to reguster the boys ol the school un order to determune what actuvutues each boy us engaged Where we wonder after consuderung these actuvutues of the two organuzatuons are those who asked when they were formed Of what use wull they be?
