Appliance of skills shown in various science classes The science department aimed at a more comprehensive study of the sci- ences. Films and other visual aids, along with fine lab facilities offered classes a better understanding of the scientific world around us. Besides the usual dissection of cats, frogs, and sharks, students in zoology classes participated in field trips to state parks to observe animals and their be- havior. In an effort to further their knowledge of body systems, physiology students set up experiments on heart rate and blood pressure. The study of molecules, atoms, acids, and bases were some of the topics dis- cussed in chemistry classes. Advanced chemistry classes stressed more lab work and independent study. Studies of heat, electricity, and magnetism were included in the physics courses. Students studying botany used scien- tific methods to apply their knowledge of the plant kingdom to their own existence. Geology students examined rocks and minerals to determine their compositions.
