Trike race begins 1971 Homecoming The 1971 Homecoming festivities opened with the annual trike race. Each homeroom was allowed one team of four girls and two boys as a pit crew. The girls donned costumes and exhibited their racing skills on trikes. After beating stiff competition, Rhamey ' s Real Wheel- ers captured first place. During the pep session, Key Club entertained with a skit, the queen candi- dates were presented, and the student body was given a chance to vote for their choice. The cheerleaders led the students in cheers, urging the Panthers on to vic- tory in the game that night. Last year ' s queen, Margie Koerten, returned to crown her successor, Jody Price, during halftime activities. Other halftime highlights included a brilliant fireworks display and the release of hun- dreds of red, black, and white balloons. The Panthers proved themselves mighty once again as they slipped past Arlington to win the football game, 8-7. Festivities concluded with the tradi- tional turnabout dance, where Tim Stone was crowned King. The theme was Color My World with music pro- ' vided by Pure Funk. all season finds many students involved Musical drama highlighted the North Central stage during the fall with Hello Dolly , the musical put on by the music department. Diann Thomas held the lead role as Dolly Gallagher Levi, Kevin Stock was Horace Vandergelder and El- len Swisher portrayed Irene Molloy. Long rehearsals and patience made the show a success. Also part of the Fall Festival was the Triangle Club sponsored boutique set up in the student center. Students were able to buy N.C. t-shirts, sweaters, and other mementos. A final highlight of the Fall Festival was the style show, Matchmaker Fashions . Twenty senior girls were selected by three independent judges to model fashions from Paul Harris stores. Students attending the style show were given a chance to win one of the door prizes. Many other activities also took place in the fall, such as the annual Military Ball sponsored by the ROTC, the fall play Spiral Staircase which had the audience solving a murder and the chil- dren ' s play, Winnie the Pooh . Young Life meetings brought many N.C. students together for singing, skits, and discussion about Christ. Students displayed their school spirit by attending the football games in the newly built stadium.
