Building North Central traditions was an essential part of organizing the school, for traditions are the agency that binds a school together with loyalty, and keeps a nostalgic memory fresh in the hearts of alums. XVithin three years an impressive list of annual events and customs has been compiled. Parents and stu- dents collaborate on an annual Back to School Night and Family Jamboree. College and Career Day give upper-classmen a foretaste of life to come. Classes campaign for officers, hold spirited elections, select rings, and are measured for caps and gowns. Sophomorcs decorate a huge tree for Christmas, juniors give the traditional prom and Spectacular, and seniors end the year with a picnic, a kiddie party, and a grad dance. Royalty are elected for the prom, the spring sports dance, and the Military Ball. The Yearbook staff, striv- ing for the unusual this year, elected a Duke and Duch- ess for the ADD dance. Honor Society, Quill and Scroll, and Thespians hold elections. The Latin Club celebrates its annual Floralia. XVinning honors began to be a tradition as achievement contests, and scholarship competitions again placed the name of North Central high on the nation's records of outstanding schools in 1958-59. Sports banquets, pep sessions, the faculty-letterman game, and student mixers are on the regular agenda. ROTC boys drill before army officers and a student audience in the spring. An operetta, an all-school play, the music depart- ment's band and vocal concerts, as well as convoca- tions, make good use of the auditorium. In three years, traditions have become a distinct part of a North Centralite,s busy life. Traditions are an essenhcll junior jewelry was on display in the Public Address system booth.
