Q H Superintendent Moves Up - T0 County Uffice This year capped off I3 years of service to N.C. for Superintendent Richard Harpster, as he resigned in June to accept the position of Williams County Superintendent of Schools. As an organized. knowledgeable and dedicated administrator. Mr. Harpster was treated to a remember when session after a dinner in his honor at the Holiday lnn attended by faculty members, school employees and board members, both present and past. Mr. Harpster, with the school board led by president, Bob Gamboe and vice-president Robert Huffman, oversaw the improvements to the school buildings, including new windows and doors in the high school aimed at energy conservation. School board members also attended their national organization's convention to increase their understanding of school management. A levy needed to meet operating expenses in the face of inflation was on the ballot in the spring, but failed. lt was placed on the ballot again in August. Handling the money for the board, as in the past I3 years, was ' Richard Oxender, clerk of the board. Rahman Dyer began the year at NC as high school principal and ended the summer as the new superintendent. Mr. Dyer brought with him several years of experience which was evidenced in the cooperation he inspired between faculty and students. Tom Balser again served as elementary and junior high principal. among many other duties, overseeing the Read-A-Thon which was capped off by releasing balloons naming the participant and the number of books read in the Read-A-Thon. Phyllis. however. will be staying in the system at the beginning of next term to break in the new superintendent. Darlene Bandeen continued to break in new vrincipals as she served as secretary to the high school principal under her third boss in four years. Darlene also nanaged to keep the class and club financial records up to date as well as brighten the day with her informative nd sometimes interesting announcement sheet. Jo Clark served in a similar capacity as secretary to thejunior iigh and elementary principal. She also was called on throughout the year to share her talent for writing poetry with NC employees as several were honored with retirement dinners and other get-togethers. ,I
