,-cqxczssms X x . ,A , Wrestlers Send Six to Disirici Joe Burkard led the young Eagles in more than one way this season, after being chosen co-captain with Tim Rickman. .loe brought home BBC, Sectional and District Champion titles in the heavyweight class. Six other wrestlers survived sectional competition and represented NC at District. New to the sport this year were I2 matmaids who attended all the matches and helped in scoring ajunior high and varsity triangular meet hosted by N.C. The annual trip to VanBuren brought home several awards as well. Individual meet record wasn't as impressive as tournaments, however, as the team ended with a 3 win and 7 loss record. Two of those losses. however were by three points or less and the team wrestled all season forfeiting one weight class at all meets. The team loses only 4 seniors and 5 of those who participated at District are underclassmen. The Eagle Award went to Joe Burkard as did the award for most pins, which was shared with Ted Frame. Ted Frame also received Most Improved and .lon Logan got a trophy for most takedowns. 29

B 5' S s,t,,,,,,WNW H a irls Sports, Interest Builds Girls' volleyball season ended for varsity with a 9-6 record and only one game in tournament. An experienced team was apparent as the Eagles had 7 returning lettermen. Even though they had two losses at the hands of Pettisville and Fayette. it was felt they were much better than those games showed. BBC honors went to Julie Stephens. lst team: Patti Pierce. 2nd team: Linda Pierce and Rae Leidy. honorable mention. Eagle Award was given to Julie Stephens and Sharon Oyer. who helped thejv's to a winning record. received Most Improved. For the first time there was also an active freshman team. No break for volleyball players who also went out for basketball. except maybe a weekend. NC's varsity started slowly, losing their first 3 games. but finished strong. winning 6 of their last 7 outings and proving they could stay with the powerful teams like Edgerton and Stryker. BBC selections for the season were Patti Pierce. Julie Stephens. Jill Deetz and Diane Bible receiving honorable mention. Julie Stephens again got the Eagle award. while Tammy Sickmiller from thejv's got the Most Improved.
